You know, I stumbled upon 112 at Plush Midnight during a quick getaway to Canberra last spring, and honestly, it kind of surprised me how much it felt like a hidden gem in the middle of Braddon. Tucked away on Elouera Street – that’s right off Lonsdale, where all those funky cafes and bars spill out onto the sidewalks – it’s super easy to get to from the city center, but without the constant buzz of tourist traffic. I drove in from the airport (about 15 minutes, if you’re not hitting peak hour), and parking was a breeze; they’ve got this secure underground spot that’s free for guests, which is a lifesaver in a place like Canberra where street parking can be a nightmare during events at the nearby National Gallery or Parliament House. Walking up, the building has this sleek, modern vibe – all glass and dark tones that blend right into the trendy neighborhood – but inside, it’s warmer than you’d expect, with that faint scent of fresh coffee wafting from the lobby espresso machine. Check-in was smooth; the staff were chatty locals who tipped me off about a quiet walking path along Lake Burley Griffin just a 10-minute stroll away, which I wouldn’t have known otherwise.

What really sets this place apart, though – and I mean this after staying in a few spots around Canberra – is how they’ve nailed that balance between plush comfort and practical touches without feeling over-the-top. My room on the third floor overlooked a little courtyard (ask for one if you hate street noise; Elouera can get a bit lively on weekends with folks heading to the bars on Mort Street), and it was spacious enough to actually unpack without tripping over your suitcase. The bed? Oh man, it was like sinking into a cloud – those high-thread-count sheets and the pillow menu made all the difference after a day exploring the War Memorial. They’ve got these little thoughtful details, like USB ports everywhere and a mini-fridge stocked with local craft beers (try the Bentspoke if you’re into IPAs), plus the bathroom had this rainfall shower that steamed up the whole space with eucalyptus-scented products – felt luxurious but not pretentious. Breakfast downstairs was solid too; nothing fancy, just fresh pastries and eggs made to order, though I wish they’d rotate the menu a bit more if you’re staying longer than a weekend. And get this, it’s pet-friendly – I saw a couple with their dog chilling in the lounge area, which added to that relaxed, homey atmosphere. Evenings were quiet, especially mid-week when Braddon’s vibe tones down after happy hour.

All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra for work or just to soak in the capital’s underrated charm – think crisp autumn leaves crunching underfoot or those clear winter nights stargazing from the lake – I’d totally recommend 112 at Plush Midnight. It’s not the flashiest 4-star out there, and yeah, the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times during my stay (blame the thunderstorms, I guess), but with a 9.3 rating, it’s clear they’re doing something right. You get that authentic Braddon energy without the hassle, and at the end of the day, it left me feeling refreshed rather than just another hotel stopover. If you’re booking, go for spring or fall to avoid the summer crowds – trust me, it’s when the place really shines.

  It was lovely and quiet. It was in easy walking distance to our entertainment venue. The bed was very comfortable and although we didn’t use the kitchen, it was well set up. All major streaming facilities available if desired.
