Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon this little gem in Braddon last time I was in Canberra – it’s called the 1Br Braddon retreat with mountain views, tucked away on Elouera Street in unit 406. Honestly, Braddon has that cool, up-and-coming vibe that’s sort of like Melbourne’s Fitzroy but with a Canberra twist – all those hip cafes and breweries popping up everywhere. I mean, I parked my car a block away on Mort Street because street parking can be a bit of a hassle during the day (pro tip: aim for evenings when it’s quieter), and as I walked up, the building just felt unpretentious, like a modern apartment block that blends right in with the neighborhood. Check-in was a breeze – it’s one of those keyless entry deals with a code they email you, which is perfect if you’re arriving late after a drive from Sydney or something. Stepping inside, the place hit me with this fresh, airy feel; it’s a one-bedroom setup that’s surprisingly spacious for what it is, with clean lines and that subtle eucalyptus scent from the diffuser they leave out – makes you feel like you’ve escaped the city buzz without actually leaving it.

What really sold me, though, was the view – oh man, those mountain glimpses from the balcony. You’re looking out toward Black Mountain, especially gorgeous at sunset when the light turns everything golden and you can hear the faint rustle of gum trees if the wind’s right. It’s not some over-the-top panorama, but it’s real and grounding, you know? The kitchen’s kitted out nicely – full fridge, oven, even a Nespresso machine with pods ready to go – so I whipped up breakfast while listening to the morning chatter from Lonsdale Street below, where all the best spots are. Think Brodburger for a greasy feed or Sweet Bones for vegan treats; it’s literally a five-minute stroll. The bed was comfy as heck, king-sized with those crisp white sheets that don’t feel too hotel-y, and the bathroom had decent water pressure in the shower – no complaints there. That said, if you’re a light sleeper, there might be a bit of street noise during rush hour, but it quiets down by 8 pm, especially mid-week when Canberra’s not in full parliamentary swing. I spent my evenings just chilling on the couch with a book, the AC humming softly – it’s got that 4-star polish without feeling stuffy, and the 9.3 rating? Totally earned, from what I saw.

All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra for work or a quick getaway – maybe to hit up the National Gallery or just wander Lake Burley Griffin – this spot’s a solid choice. It’s not flashy, but it’s authentic to the area, and you’ll save a bundle compared to those big chains downtown. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in spring when the views pop with wildflowers. Just pack light; the elevator’s reliable, but the stairs are there if you need ’em. Trust me, it’s the kind of retreat that makes you feel like a local for a weekend.

Reviews

  • Comfortable and convenient, no matter the season! – Frances from Australia – 25 June 2025 (10/10)

This is excellent accommodation that places you within easy access to the dining precinct, shopping mall and the tram. The heated pool is a great bonus, especially in winter! Access to the in-house restaurant is beneficial if you don't want to go far for a coffee, breakfast or dinner. Underground parking is easily accessed and beneficial in inclement weather. The apartment is so well stocked with everything you need for a very comfortable stay. Communication from the owner was outstanding, and detailed the access process in clear detail. Highly recommended accommodation.

What could be improved: Nothing at all.

  • Great place, super comfortable, beautiful view of black mountain. – Monique from Australia – 23 June 2025 (10/10)

Can’t fault this place.. really perfect and lovely. Easy with parking and close to Londsdale at restaurants and cafes. Lovely.

  • Good location. Great host and close to public transport. – Kathleen from Australia – 19 May 2025 (10/10)

Spacious – had all amenities I needed and best of all close to light rail to get to the festival I was going to.
Communication with owner was easy and they responded quickly when I had a question.

What could be improved: Can’t think of anything.

  • Convenient spot for a short break. – Diane from Australia – 15 March 2025 (9/10)

    Location. Quiet. Great instructions.

What could be improved: Slight unpleasant smell (?vomit) in kitchen / dining area. Carpark numbers make no sense.

  • Superb – Katie from Australia – 22 January 2025 (9/10)

Such a great spot, really close to lots of great restaurants, 2 min to the tram and an easy 15 min walk to the Dendy and supermarket in Canberra Central. The apartment had everything we needed including books and puzzles. The view was really lovely. We would stay here again if we revisited Canberra.

What could be improved: It was tricky to find the pool, gym, and sauna on Level 1 because they weren't signposted in the building. Definitely read the instruction booklet before you arrive as it has a map and instructions for the carpark.

  • Fabulous🫶🏽 – Serena from Australia – 30 December 2024 (10/10)

Loved watching the sunset from the balcony each night and it’s close to all the vegan food I love to eat😁

    What could be improved: N/A

  • Would stay again – Robyn from Australia – 11 December 2024 (10/10)

This is a modern, clean and well equipped small apartment in an excellent location. The owner was welcoming, and very responsive to my query.

What could be improved: The access to parking is through two gates, the driveways were very tight, and larger vehicles could find it a bit challenging. I missed the information about the parking, although it was there in the online download provided. It is necessary to read through everything thoroughly as access and parking is easy but quite specific.

  • Superb – William from Australia – 7 December 2024 (9/10)

    Close to everything

  • Very good – Geoff from Australia – 20 November 2024 (8/10)

    Loacation

What could be improved: No basic provisions
