Hotel Description
You know, I ended up booking this 1BR Executive Apartment on Northbourne Avenue in Canberra last spring, right when the jacarandas were blooming and turning the streets into this purple haze – it’s one of those little seasonal perks that make the city feel alive, especially if you’re coming from somewhere more hectic like Sydney. Anyway, it’s at 74 Northbourne, smack in the middle of things, and honestly, pulling up there after a long drive felt like a relief. The building’s got that no-frills modern vibe – not flashy, but clean and straightforward, like a lot of the serviced apartments popping up around Civic. Check-in was a breeze; I mean, it’s self-check-in with a code, which is great if you’re arriving late (I got in around 9 PM after hitting traffic on the Hume), but just a heads up, the lobby’s pretty basic, no concierge hovering or anything, so pack light if you’re lugging bags up the elevator.
What really sold me on the place was how it felt like a proper little home base without the fuss of a big hotel. The apartment itself is cozy – one bedroom with a queen bed that’s firm but comfy, fresh sheets that actually smell like they’ve been line-dried (none of that chemical hotel scent), and a living area that opens up to a small balcony overlooking Northbourne. You can hear the light rail trundling by every now and then, especially in the mornings when everyone’s heading to work, but it’s not intrusive – more like white noise that reminds you you’re in the heart of it all. The kitchenette’s equipped enough for basics; I whipped up a quick brekkie with eggs from the IGA just down the road on Bunda Street, and there’s a microwave and mini-fridge that saved me from eating out every meal. Oh, and parking – that’s a godsend here, since street spots in Canberra can be a nightmare during peak hours. They have secure underground spots for guests, though it might cost you an extra tenner a night. It’s a 3-star setup, rated around an 8, which feels spot on – nothing luxurious, but practical for a solo traveler or couple. I walked to the Canberra Centre for shopping in like five minutes, and if you’re into history, the War Memorial’s an easy 15-minute stroll up Anzac Parade. Well, sort of – grab the light rail if you’re not up for the hill.
All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra for a quick business trip or just to explore without breaking the bank, this place is a solid pick. It’s not perfect – the bathroom’s on the compact side, and Wi-Fi can lag during busy evenings when everyone’s streaming – but for the price, you get that independent feel without isolation. I left thinking, yeah, I’d crash here again next time I’m in town for Floriade or whatever event’s on. You know what? It just makes the city accessible, letting you dip into spots like the lake for a sunset walk or hit up Dickson for dumplings without much hassle. Give it a go if you’re after something real and unpretentious.

A lovely apartment – Anne from United Kingdom – 16 November 2022 (9/10)
Spacious, lovely apartment and well equipped.
I would recommend for a short stay, otherwise choose a higher level. – Kylie from Australia – 4 October 2022 (8/10)
This apartment was well located within the CBD. It was well stocked and had most things you would need.
What could be improved: Unfortunately it is over the 24 hour Maccas and being on level 1 was a bit noisy during the night. Also the bed was uncomfortable and the curtains need attention.Exceptional – Lara from Australia – 28 April 2023 (10/10)
the host was very accommodating and the location of the property was very convenient right near every necessity that a person could need
W service W host W stay – Kite from Australia – 2 January 2023 (10/10)
Nice and tidy
Was only ok – Angela from Australia – 11 July 2023 (4/10)
It was close to restaurants in Lonsdale Ave and close to Westfield shopping. Nice owner to deal with.
What could be improved: It felt unsafe being on the first floor. The noise in and around the building was out of this world with screaming, yelling, revving cars, techno music until at least 2am. Lots of undesirables around the area.
No warm blankets for Canberra winter.
No proper fold out lounge bed for kids, just mattress on floor. The property is within Adina complex and have no knowledge of your booking. Though central to Canberra city and sights, – Anonymous from Australia – 12 November 2022 (4/10)
central to city and main arterial roads
What could be improved: this unit is located on level one and is directly above the MacDonalds drive thru and store entrance and opposite 7 Eleven, it was noisy all night with customers coming and going which made for a bad nights sleepVery good – Neil from Australia – 9 January 2023 (8/10)
Superb – Melanie from Australia – 20 October 2022 (9/10)
Very good – Matt from Australia – 18 August 2024 (8/10)
