Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon the 2 BR family business friendly CBD ANU during a quick trip to Canberra last spring, and honestly, it turned out to be one of those spots that just clicks for a mix of work and family vibes. Tucked right on London Circuit, smack in the heart of the CBD, it’s like a stone’s throw from the ANU campus – I mean, if you’re popping over for a lecture or meeting, you can literally walk it in under 10 minutes, dodging those pesky cyclists on the paths around Civic. Check-in was a breeze; I arrived mid-afternoon during that quiet lull before the after-work rush, and the host was this laid-back local who handed over the keys with a quick rundown of the building’s quirks, like how the elevator can be a bit slow during peak hours. The place feels more like a comfy apartment than a stuffy hotel – think two bedrooms with actual space to spread out, not those cramped setups you get in some city stays. I remember flopping onto the couch after a long drive from Sydney, and the faint scent of fresh linen mixed with that crisp Canberra air coming through the windows; it was refreshing, especially after dealing with the dry wind outside.
What really sold me was how it balances family-friendly perks with business needs without feeling forced. The kitchenette’s stocked with basics – a decent fridge, microwave, and even a dishwasher that actually works quietly, which is a godsend if you’ve got kids crashing early or you’re on a late Zoom call. Our room overlooked bits of the lake (Burley Griffin, obviously), and mornings were peaceful with just the hum of distant traffic from Northbourne Avenue, though it picks up a tad during rush hour if you’re a light sleeper – earplugs helped, but nothing major. For families, there’s enough room for everyone to unwind; my niece loved the little balcony where we sipped coffee watching joggers loop around the water. Business-wise, the Wi-Fi was solid – streamed a conference without a hitch – and it’s super close to spots like the National Gallery or even a quick bite at those cafes on Bunda Street. Oh, and parking? They have secure spots underground, but book ahead because it fills up fast during events like Floriade in September when the city’s buzzing with tourists. It’s not perfect – the decor’s a bit minimalist, sort of IKEA-chic without much personality – but at 4 stars with an 8.8 rating, it punches above its weight for value.
All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra for a blend of work, uni visits, or just exploring with the fam, this place is a smart pick. It’s got that authentic Canberra feel – efficient, understated, and right where you need to be without the tourist trap hassle. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in the cooler months when the city’s quieter and you can really appreciate the walks to places like the War Memorial. Trust me, it’s the kind of stay that leaves you feeling like a local, not just a visitor.
