Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon this place called 2BR-1BR-1Car- CBD Pool Central during a quick work trip to Canberra last autumn, and honestly, it turned out to be way better than I expected for a 3-star spot. It’s tucked away on Cooyong Street, right in the heart of the CBD – we’re talking a stone’s throw from the bustling Civic area, where you’ve got all those trendy cafes in Braddon just a short walk away. I mean, I grabbed my morning flat white from that little joint on Lonsdale Street, and it was divine – none of that over-roasted chain stuff. Arriving there, the building looks pretty unassuming from the outside, like one of those modern apartment blocks that blend into the cityscape, but once you step in, it’s got this surprisingly welcoming vibe. Check-in was a breeze; it’s self-service with a code they email you, which is perfect if you’re rolling in late after a flight from Sydney. No fuss, no front desk drama. And parking? They include one secure spot underground, which is a godsend in Canberra where street parking can be a nightmare, especially during those parliamentary sitting weeks when the whole area buzzes with suits and security.
What really won me over, though, was how it felt like a proper home base rather than some sterile hotel room – it’s set up as a two-bedroom apartment with one bathroom, all kitted out with a full kitchen (fridge, microwave, even a dishwasher, which saved me from eating out every night). The living area is cozy, with these big windows overlooking the street – you get that faint hum of city traffic during the day, but it quiets down nicely by evening, especially if you’re there mid-week when things aren’t as hectic. Oh, and the pool! It’s on the rooftop, nothing fancy like those infinity edges you see in Bali, but it’s clean, heated just right for those crisp Canberra mornings, and I had it mostly to myself one afternoon. Smelled faintly of chlorine, sure, but the views over towards Mount Ainslie were killer – you could almost forget you’re in the middle of the capital. The beds were comfy enough, though the pillows are a bit on the flat side (I always pack my own anyway), and the Wi-Fi held up for streaming without any lag, which is crucial when you’re catching up on emails. It’s not luxurious – the decor’s modern but basic, think IKEA vibes – but everything was spotless, and there’s even a washer-dryer in the unit, which came in handy after a muddy hike around Lake Burley Griffin.
All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra for a few days – maybe to check out the National Gallery or hit up a show at the Canberra Theatre, which is literally a 10-minute stroll away – this place is a smart pick. At a 9.3 rating, it’s punching above its weight for the price, especially compared to those pricier chains near Parliament House that feel so impersonal. Sure, it might not have room service or a spa (who needs that when you’ve got nearby spots like the QT for a fancy drink?), but for families or solo travelers wanting space and convenience without breaking the bank, it’s gold. I’d go back in a heartbeat – well, as long as it’s not during Floriade season when the crowds swarm; that’s when you’d want to book early to snag that car spot.

I’ve stayed a few times now with and with out my children and small dog and would reccomend to both solo traveler’s and families alike. Great location, beautifully furnished with parking makes for a super easy stay. The staff and cleaning crew go above and beyond to accomodate requests where possible and I will definitely be using them again when I visit with family or on my own.
