Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon the Adina Serviced Apartments in Dickson during a quick work trip to Canberra last spring, and honestly, it turned out to be one of those spots that just clicks without trying too hard. Pulling up to 45 Dooring Street, right in the heart of Dickson – which, if you’ve been to Canberra, you know is that funky suburb packed with Asian eateries and little markets – I was relieved to find parking wasn’t a nightmare. There’s a secure underground spot, which is gold in a city where street parking can vanish during peak hours, like when everyone’s heading to the War Memorial or Lake Burley Griffin for those sunset walks. Check-in was a breeze; the staff were these laid-back locals who chatted about the best pho joints nearby – try the one on Woolley Street, it’s legit – and handed over the keys with zero fuss. My apartment? It felt more like crashing at a mate’s place than a stuffy hotel room. Spacious, with that fresh linen smell and big windows letting in the crisp Canberra air – you can hear the faint hum of traffic on Dooring, but it’s not intrusive, especially if you’re on a higher floor. I mean, it’s not dead silent like some ritzy resort, but for a 4.5-star setup with an 8 rating, it nails that practical vibe.

What really sold me, though, was how these apartments are set up for actual living, not just sleeping. You’ve got a full kitchenette – think dishwasher, microwave, even a little oven – which saved me a fortune on eating out. I whipped up brekkie with groceries from the Coles around the corner on Cape Street, and it felt so homey, especially after a long day wandering the National Gallery (it’s only a 10-minute drive south). The pool’s a nice touch too, heated and outdoors, perfect for unwinding in the evenings when the Canberra chill sets in – though fair warning, it can get busy with families during school holidays. Bedrooms are comfy, with those plush beds that don’t leave you aching, and the bathroom’s got that spa-like rain shower; I remember the hot water pressure being spot-on, no dribbles here. Oh, and the Wi-Fi? Solid, not the glitchy kind you get in some older places. It’s sort of tucked away from the main tourist drag, so you avoid the crowds around Civic, but you’re still close enough – hop on a bus down Northbourne Avenue and you’re in the city center in no time. One minor gripe: the decor’s modern but a tad generic, like IKEA chic – nothing flashy, but hey, it works.

All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra for more than a night or two – maybe exploring the arboretum or hitting up those wineries in the nearby hills – I’d totally recommend Adina Dickson. It’s not the glitzy five-star scene, but for families, solo travelers, or anyone who wants space without the hassle, it’s a winner. You get that independent feel, plus it’s quieter in the off-season like winter, when the fog rolls in and everything feels a bit magical. Honestly, next time I’m back, that’s where I’m booking – beats overpaying for a cramped room downtown, you know?

Convenient by car to Dickson and Civic shops and restaurants.
Staff helpful in fixing room heater which was needed due to sub-zero night temps.

What could be improved: The room was dated and in need of repairs/maintenance eg heater, HWS hot/cold water regulation, and a lick of paint to refresh.
Cleaning, especially floors and skirting boards, would help give me confidence that everything else was clean.

  • Great stay – Karan from Australia – 12 June 2025 (9/10)

As soon as we walked out the lift on our floor the place was lovely and warm. The apartment was cosy, comfy bed, large TV, modern bathroom with large showerhead. Good location between Dickson and city centre. Reception staff were very helpful with advice on using the light rail (closest station just around the corner) and how to get to GIO stadium. Really enjoyed our stay there.

What could be improved: Unfortunately the coffee machine in the downstairs Cafe wasn't working and there aren't any cafes nearby.

  • More room with better facilities to meet a longer term stay of a week – Mike from Australia – 9 June 2025 (8/10)

    Location, friendly staff

What could be improved: Maybe a little more subdued lighting rather than just bright overhead lights
