Hotel Description

You know, I ended up at the Adina Serviced Apartments Canberra James Court last time I was in Canberra for a quick work trip – it’s right on 74 Northbourne Avenue in Braddon, that funky little suburb that’s sort of exploded with cool eateries and bars over the past few years. Honestly, pulling up to the place after driving in from Sydney, I was relieved it wasn’t one of those sterile high-rises; it’s got this understated vibe, like a mix of apartment block and hotel, with a bit of that ’90s brick charm that’s still hanging on in parts of the city. Check-in was a breeze – the staff were friendly Aussies who actually chatted about the best coffee spots nearby, like loading you up with tips on Lonsdale Street’s hip cafes without making it feel scripted. I mean, if you’re coming in peak season, say during Floriade in spring when the whole town buzzes with flower festivals, book ahead because Northbourne can get jammed with traffic. But parking? They have undercover spots, which is a godsend in Canberra’s unpredictable weather – think sudden rain showers that turn everything crisp and fresh-smelling.

What really sold me on the Adina is how it’s set up like proper serviced apartments, you know? My one-bedroom spot had a full kitchen – nothing fancy, but with a decent stove, microwave, and even a dishwasher that hummed quietly in the background while I whipped up brekkie from the IGA just down the road. The rooms aren’t massive, but they’re comfy, with that soft, lived-in feel – plush carpets underfoot, a balcony overlooking the avenue (which, fair warning, picks up some traffic noise in the mornings, especially if you’re a light sleeper like me). I appreciated the little touches, like the laundry facilities in the unit; saved me from hunting down a laundromat after a dusty day exploring the War Memorial or strolling around Lake Burley Griffin, which is only about a 20-minute walk south. The pool area is a nice bonus too – outdoor, heated, and surprisingly quiet in the evenings, with that chlorine tang in the air mixing with eucalyptus from the nearby trees. Oh, and the Wi-Fi was solid, no dropouts during my Zoom calls, though the decor feels a tad dated in spots, like the bathrooms could use a refresh – but hey, for a 4-star joint with a 7.8 rating, it’s practical without pretending to be luxurious.

All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra and want something that feels more like a home base than a hotel – especially for longer stays or families – this place is a solid pick. It’s smack in Braddon, so you’re steps from gems like Grease Monkey for burgers or the night markets on weekends, and it’s easy to hop on a bus to Parliament House if that’s your thing. Well, maybe skip it if you crave absolute silence at night, but otherwise, I’d go back in a heartbeat. Just time it for autumn when the leaves turn and the city’s at its mellow best – trust me, you’ll thank yourself.

Reviews

  • Great stay – Megan from Australia – 9 July 2025 (7/10)

Fantastic location, very spacious, friendly accommodating staff

What could be improved: Heater didn’t work so great. Fire evacuation was very inconvenient and took ages to get back to our rooms. They could have opened the emergency exit for us to re-enter

  • Perfect little family mini getaway – Merabai from Australia – 22 June 2025 (8/10)

The room was beautifully set out, nice and clean and very spacious.

The balcony and the view was immaculate, perfect in the morning with a coffee and/or in the afternoon with a cold drink

The hotel was very accommodating, the staff were fantastic to talk too and helped us perfectly.

Everything was easy going, the check in staff really took the time to make sure we understood everything needed to make our stay easy going with our family.

What could be improved: Only issues we had were with the TVs and Internet.(Basic problems for people who don't wanna watch live TV)

And the balcony was extra cold due to the fans blowing right on us.

  • Absolutely fantastic. – Angie from Australia – 16 June 2025 (9/10)

The hotel is in a great location. The staff are super friendly and try their best to assist with all needs. I was able to receive a late check out which was fantastic and assisted my travel plans. The spa bath is a real treat.

What could be improved: I could not fault anything on this stay but I have stayed numerous times and some type of loyalty incentive might be nice. Like free parking on my next stay etc.

  • Loved the apartment , clean , great location . – Kerry from Australia – 23 May 2025 (9/10)

Friendly staff , large rooms and location was fantastic.

What could be improved: Parking was hard for large vehicles

  • Good – Olena from Australia – 20 May 2025 (7/10)

What could be improved: There were either two single beds pushed together or just two mattresses on one double bed, and the mattresses kept moving apart, leaving a gap between them. My partner and I were uncomfortable sleeping.

  • Lovely accom and really helpful friendly staff. Big comfy beds – Cramer from Australia – 17 May 2025 (9/10)

    Central and spacious

What could be improved: Had trouble with the TV

  • Superb – Michael from Australia – 13 May 2025 (9/10)

great location with wonderful facilities. the staff were friendly and everything was well maintained. aside from a minor detail it was the perfect experience. i will book again in the future

What could be improved: noticed some slight damage to the room tiles. nothing dangerous but may need to be adressed

  • Great location. – Deanna from Australia – 10 May 2025 (8/10)

It was in a great location and big apartment. Apartment was a little dated but was clean and catered for everything I needed.

What could be improved: The poor service, in regards to check-in. My flight was delayed so I didn’t get in until after reception closed. The staff on duty didn’t attempt to contact me regarding access to the lock box or key. So when I arrived it’s took me 15min of calling around to find someone to help. It’s the last thing you want after a delayed flight and being locked out at 11pm. Then after my second night, I had a phone call asking when I was checking out that day, even though I’d spoke to someone at reception and had organised and paid an additional night. The only member of staff I found helpful and accomodating was Chelsea. All others need to learn a thing or 2.

  • Great – Bryce from Australia – 3 May 2025 (9/10)

    Location was prime

What could be improved: The bathrooms were a little dirty

  • I’ll deffently stay again as long as better cooking equipment or more of them – Kristy from Australia – 1 May 2025 (9/10)

Clean and tidiness so central to everything

What could be improved: The apartment above people were either stomping or jumping on there floor al night so sleep was minimal
And there was only one very small saucepan cooking meals was really hard didn’t fit at all with travelling with 4 adult family members
