Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon the Beautiful 3 Bedroom Townhouse in Dickson during a quick getaway to Canberra last spring, and honestly, it was one of those spots that just feels like a smart pick without trying too hard to impress. Tucked away on a quiet street off Northbourne Avenue – yeah, that main drag that connects you straight into the city center – it’s got this unassuming vibe that blends right into the suburb’s laid-back energy. I mean, Dickson itself is kind of a hidden gem for foodies; you’ve got all those Asian eateries clustered around Woolley Street, like the pho joints and dumpling spots that locals swear by. We rolled up in the evening after a long drive from Sydney, and parking was a breeze – there’s a dedicated spot right out front, no fussing with meters or anything. The place smells faintly of eucalyptus from the nearby trees, and it’s surprisingly peaceful at night, even though you’re just a 10-minute drive from the buzz of Civic or Lake Burley Griffin. First impression? It’s not flashy, but it screams practical comfort for a family or small group – we were four adults and it didn’t feel cramped at all.

Diving in a bit more, the townhouse itself is this cozy three-bedroom setup that’s got that lived-in charm, you know? The living area opens up to a small patio – perfect for morning coffee while listening to the birds chirping away – and the kitchen’s fully stocked with basics like a decent fridge and microwave, though I will say the oven’s a tad finicky if you’re planning a big cook-up. Bedrooms are straightforward: clean linens, comfy queen beds (one room has twins, which worked for our group), and blackout curtains that actually do the job against Canberra’s bright mornings. Check-in was super easy via a key lockbox – no waiting around for staff, which is a godsend if you’re arriving late. It’s rated 7.9, and I’d say that’s spot on; everything’s functional and well-maintained, but don’t expect luxury touches like spa baths or fancy toiletries – it’s more of a home-away-from-home deal. We did notice a bit of street noise during rush hour on weekdays, what with the light rail stop nearby on Cape Street, but it quiets down after dark. Oh, and if you’re there in summer, crank the air con early; those Aussie afternoons can sneak up on you.

All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra for a mix of sightseeing – think hitting the War Memorial or Parliament House, both under 15 minutes away – and just chilling in a real neighborhood, this townhouse is a solid choice. It’s affordable for what you get, especially compared to those sterile hotels downtown, and it gave us that flexibility to wander out for brekkie at the Dickson shops or grab takeaway from the markets on weekends. Well, sort of a minor gripe: the Wi-Fi can be patchy during peak times, but hey, that’s Canberra’s spotty coverage for you. I’d go back in a heartbeat for a low-key trip – it’s got that authentic feel that makes you appreciate the quieter side of the capital, without breaking the bank. If you’re traveling with mates or kids, trust me, it’ll hit the spot.

    Spacious, clean and well located.

What could be improved: Key collection and return turned out to be a mission.

  • Comfy stay with shops and restaurant close by, – Andrea from Australia – 8 April 2025 (9/10)

Excellent description with YouTube video on how ad where to collect keys for stay.

What could be improved: Nothing, the whole place was great, and the location was perfect

  • Thanks, it was a great place to stay and perfect location for our needs – Fiona from Australia – 9 October 2024 (9/10)

Location was exactly what we needed
Good mattresses and great space to chill and relax as needed
    Great facilities

What could be improved: The code for the door could be further up the email/clearer and email was a little late (but easily fixed)
There was only one working fob for access, which made coordination tricky as we were coming and going at different times
Bowls in kitchen were a little small but this is a minor

  • Good – Adam from Australia – 19 March 2024 (7/10)

What could be improved: Key keyfob did NOT unlock the front door and it took over 30mins for Airtasker to get back to us and provide the pin code.

  • Comfortable but needed a little TLC on the outside and a paint on the inside. – Stephen from Australia – 26 February 2024 (7/10)

Inside the unit has water stains on the roof, but was sanitary.

What could be improved: Outside area needed a clean up with weeds and bags od weeds left in the court yard,

  • A pleasant and comfortable stay – Hughes from Australia – 24 January 2024 (8/10)

  • Great place and great location (once you find it) – Catherine from Australia – 21 September 2023 (9/10)

    Great place for our catchup

What could be improved: Instructions on how to find did not factor in that if you used the wrong lift from the car park that you would not be able to find the apartment / instructions need improving

  • Good – Wilhelmina from Australia – 22 February 2024 (7/10)

It was roomy downstairs in the living area.
    Beds were comfy.

What could be improved: Balcony had one small table and only two chairs, hardly adequate for a group of 5.
There was supposed to be a bbq on balcony but it wasn’t there.
Courtyard was full of weeds and was a very unwelcoming first impression.
Large water stains on ceiling in living area.
Mould on ceiling in second bathroom.
No wardrobe in third bedroom, very little room for suitcases.
No side tables in two bedrooms.
Vertical blinds in bedrooms were mouldy.
Timber venetians blinds in kitchen were dirty and hadn’t been cleaned for a while.
There was no physical compendium of Apartments details so we didn’t know what we were supposed to do with regard to all details about apartment. It wasn’t until I opened up one of the emails that I found the long list of requirements that needed doing prior to leaving.
Probably the most frustrating thing about the stay was having to locate the EzyMart in the city centre to collect the keys, some 3kms away and having to drop off again upon departure. What a ridiculous arrangement. Couldn’t the owner have organised for one of the nearby shops to arrange keys pickup and drop off. Any to only have one fob/key for 5 people was just ridiculous.

  • I wanted to buy it – Carlene from Australia – 21 November 2024 (10/10)

    Outstanding accommodation

  • Lovely spacious apartment in a great location. – Joanne from Australia – 15 September 2023 (10/10)

Location was great, very close to a nearby pub. restaurants and Woolworths.

What could be improved: The apartment was a little bit confusing to find, but the check in instructions helped.
