Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon the Bright Loft-Style Apartment with Gorgeous View while planning a quick getaway to Canberra last spring – hosted by CanStay, and honestly, it turned out to be one of those hidden gems that make you feel like you’ve scored big time. It’s tucked away in the 2612 postcode, right in the inner north, not far from the trendy Braddon district where all the cool cafes and breweries are popping up. I mean, if you’re into that scene, you can walk to places like Lonsdale Street for a flat white or some craft beer without even thinking about driving. Arriving was a breeze; check-in was self-service with a key code they emailed ahead, which was perfect because I rolled in late after a drive from Sydney, and there was no fussing with reception desks. Parking? There’s a spot in the building’s garage, but heads up – it can get tight during peak tourist season around Floriade in September, when everyone’s flocking to the flower festivals. Stepping inside, the place hit me with this bright, airy vibe right away – high ceilings and those massive windows that flood the loft with natural light, making it feel way bigger than your average apartment.
What really sold me, though, was that gorgeous view they promise in the name – it’s legit overlooking parts of Lake Burley Griffin, especially stunning at sunset when the water turns all golden and you can spot the hot air balloons drifting by if you’re there in March for the Balloon Spectacular. The loft setup is clever, with a mezzanine bedroom upstairs that gives it this cool, urban edge, like something out of a Melbourne laneway but plopped in Canberra’s quieter vibe. I loved the little touches: the kitchen had fresh herbs in pots on the windowsill (smelled amazing when I whipped up breakfast), and the bedding was super soft, that crisp cotton kind that doesn’t make you sweat in the Aussie heat. Noise-wise, it’s pretty peaceful – you’re elevated enough that street sounds from nearby Northbourne Avenue fade out, but if you’re a light sleeper, the occasional tram ding might sneak in early mornings. Oh, and the bathroom’s got this rainfall shower that felt luxurious after a day hiking in Namadgi National Park, which is just a 30-minute drive south if you’re into that outdoorsy stuff. It’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times during my stay, probably because of the building’s age, but nothing a quick reset couldn’t fix.
All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra for work or just to check out Parliament House and the galleries – it’s like a 10-minute Uber from here – this place makes the trip feel more like a comfy home base than a sterile hotel room. At 4 stars with a solid 9 rating, it’s got that balance of style and practicality without breaking the bank. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in the quieter winter months when the fog rolls over the lake and everything feels a bit magical. Trust me, if you book it, pack some snacks from the nearby Haig Park Village Markets – they’re open Sundays and pair perfectly with that view from the balcony.
