Pulling up to 170 Aspinall Street, it’s this unassuming little motel tucked away in a leafy suburb north of the CBD, right near the Federal Highway if you’re coming from Sydney. What really won me over were the rooms – they’re basic, sure, but spotlessly clean and way more spacious than you’d think for the price. Mine had this comfy queen bed with crisp sheets that didn’t feel like they’d been through a thousand washes (though the pillows were a tad flat – pack your own if you’re picky), and a little kitchenette with a microwave and fridge that saved me from eating out every night. I whipped up some instant noodles one evening while watching the telly, and it felt oddly satisfying after a day exploring. Noise-wise, it’s peaceful – no rowdy neighbors or traffic hum – but fair warning, the Wi-Fi can be spotty if everyone’s online at once, especially in the evenings. Still, for a no-frills stay, it punches above its weight; that 8.3 rating isn’t hype – it’s from folks like me who appreciate the value.

Look, if you’re visiting Canberra for the parliament tours or the National Gallery – both about 10-15 minutes drive south on Northbourne Avenue – this place is a smart pick without breaking the bank. It’s not luxurious, and the decor’s a bit dated (think ’90s motel vibes with those floral curtains), but that’s part of its authentic appeal. I left feeling like I’d found a hidden spot that locals might keep to themselves – perfect for families or solo travelers who want easy access without the city chaos. Next time I’m in town, I’d book it again in a heartbeat, especially in winter when the suburb’s frost-covered parks add that crisp, invigorating edge to your morning walk. Trust me, it’s the kind of place that makes you rethink what a good motel can be.

  We advised that we will be arriving late and they organised a simple checkin process. Very delighted with the clean and cooled cabin after long drive on a hot day. Basic necessities was available. We were impressed with the very large showers! Location is nice and quiet, and just 10-15 mins from the CBD. Would definitely come back when we visit Canberra again.
