You know, I stumbled upon the Canberra City apartments when I was in town last spring for a work thing – honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from a place tucked away on Cooyong Street, but it turned out to be a total gem. It’s right in the heart of Civic, you know, that bustling area where you’ve got the Canberra Centre just a short walk away for grabbing coffee or doing some shopping. I mean, if you’re into that lakeside vibe, Lake Burley Griffin is like a 15-minute stroll from there – perfect for shaking off jet lag with a morning jog or just watching the rowers glide by. The building itself is modern but not flashy, sort of blends in with the surrounding apartments and offices, which keeps things low-key. Oh, and parking? A lifesaver in Canberra, where finding a spot downtown can be a nightmare, especially during those parliamentary session weeks when everything gets jammed up. I pulled into their secure underground spot without any hassle – no circling blocks like I did last time I stayed near Braddon.

What really sold me was the self check-in setup – you get a code texted to you, punch it in at the door, and bam, you’re in your own little world. My unit was on the second floor (202, if I remember right), and it felt more like a comfy apartment than a hotel room: spacious living area with a full kitchen – think stainless steel appliances and enough counter space to actually whip up a meal from the nearby markets. The bed was plush, sheets crisp and fresh-smelling, like they’d just been laundered that morning. And the pool? It’s this rooftop number that’s heated year-round, which is clutch in Canberra’s chilly winters – I dipped in after a long day exploring the National Gallery, and it was blissfully quiet, no crowds, just the hum of the city below and that faint chlorine tang in the air. Well, minor gripe: the Wi-Fi can be spotty during peak evening hours when everyone’s streaming, but it sorted itself out after a quick reset. Noise-wise, Cooyong Street isn’t too bad – a bit of traffic hum during rush hour, but nothing that kept me up, especially with the double-glazed windows.

All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra and want something practical without the fuss of a big hotel chain, this place is a solid choice – it’s got that 4-star polish with a real lived-in feel, and that 9 rating? Totally earned. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially for the convenience of being able to self-cater and park without stress. Just pack light if you’re taking the stairs – the elevator’s reliable, but you know how it is with buildings like this. Trust me, it’s the kind of spot that makes you feel like a local, not just a visitor.

  Everything! The apartment is extremely comfortable and the bed provided great sleep. The location is perfect–we could walk to every place we wanted to visit in Canberra. We loved the complementary coffee, breakfast goodies and fresh milk….:)
