Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon the Central Lakeview Apartment near ANU during a quick trip to Canberra last spring, and honestly, it was one of those finds that makes you feel like you’ve cracked the code on traveling smart in the capital. Pulling up to 25 Edinburgh Avenue – right in the heart of the city, just a stone’s throw from the Australian National University – I was immediately relieved about the free parking. In Canberra, where everything’s spread out and public transport can be hit or miss, having a spot right there without the usual hassle (or those ridiculous fees) is a game-changer. I mean, I drove in from Sydney, and after hours on the road, not circling blocks for parking was a blessing. The building itself has this modern, understated vibe – not flashy, but clean and welcoming, with a lobby that smells faintly of fresh coffee from the nearby cafes. Check-in was a breeze; the host met me with keys and a quick rundown, no corporate rigmarole, just straightforward and friendly. Oh, and if you’re coming in peak season like during Floriade in September, book ahead – the place fills up fast with uni folks and festival-goers.
Stepping into the apartment, though – that’s where it really shines. It’s got this spacious, homey feel, like a proper one-bedroom setup with a full kitchen (stocked with basics, which saved me on breakfast runs), and huge windows overlooking Lake Burley Griffin. Mornings were my favorite; I’d brew a coffee and just sit there watching the rowers glide by, the water sparkling under that crisp Canberra sun – it’s got this serene, almost meditative quality, you know? The bed was comfy as anything, with those plush linens that make you sink in after a day wandering around nearby spots like the National Gallery or grabbing a bite at the hip eateries on Lonsdale Street, which is literally a five-minute walk away. Well, sort of – it’s more like seven if you’re dawdling past the street art. There’s air con that actually works quietly (a rarity in some Aussie spots), and the bathroom’s got decent water pressure, though I will say the shower could use a bit more oomph during colder months. Noise-wise, Edinburgh Avenue can get a tad buzzy in the evenings with traffic, but it quiets down by 10 PM, and the double-glazed windows keep most of it out. I appreciated the little touches, like the washer-dryer combo – perfect for longer stays, especially if you’re here for ANU conferences or just exploring the parliamentary triangle without lugging laundry around.
All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra and want something that’s not your standard sterile hotel but feels like a real base – with that 4-star polish and a stellar 9.3 rating that totally holds up – this is it. It’s ideal for solo travelers, couples, or even families dipping into the uni scene, and at that location, you’re saving time and sanity not commuting from the outskirts. I left feeling refreshed, not drained, and yeah, I’d book it again in a heartbeat. Just pack light layers for those unpredictable Canberra winds – trust me on that one.

Exceptional – Lisa from Australia – 10 July 2025 (10/10)
This Lakeview Apartment was a delight to stay in – clean, fresh, and modern. Extremely quiet given the central location. Fabulous views and proximity to the bars, cafes and restaurants of the New Acton Precinct. We appreciated the easy check in, parking being included, the coffee machine, and the host’s contact after having left behind an article of clothing.
Would not hesitate to stay here again.Amazing place next to ANU for a perfect work-related stay – Davor from Croatia – 6 July 2025 (10/10)
It’s so practical spacious, sunny, great view
What could be improved: it was a bit complicated to find the key (even though there’s a video of how to get there).Perfect – Ray from Australia – 19 June 2025 (10/10)
Location was great, property was clean and comfortable
What could be improved: Nothing not to likeExcellent location, view and walking distance to mini mart and several restaurants – Brian from Australia – 19 April 2025 (9/10)
Location, view, apartment, kitchen etc.
Attached Hotel had the best breakfast when we didn’t want to cook.
What could be improved: Lounge was too hard to relax in when 2 people sitting, probably because of no footrests .The apartment is in a prime spot and is very cosy and comfortable – Ian from Australia – 13 March 2025 (10/10)
Very comfortable and would recommend for a couple no children
What could be improved: Entry a bit confusing but directions acceptableHighly recommend for the facilities you get compared to a hotel room. – Kathryn from Australia – 13 March 2025 (9/10)
Great location. Wonderful view of the lake. Felt like being at home.
Lovely, modern apartment in a great location. – Alexandre from Australia – 16 February 2025 (9/10)
Great location. Apartment was comfortable, clean & modern.
What could be improved: Although host provided details regarding accessing parking, it was confusing as we had to drive into Wilson Parking & there was only signs for public parking & no signs for residents parking (not host’s fault). Once we figured out how to get to the parking assigned to the apartment, it was easy to access.
The apartment has lovely views of the lake however, we were disappointed that we could not use the verandah due to the loud freeway noise. The freeway noise could not be heard inside the apartment as it has great insulation.A great place to stay. No parking or taxi fees to pay. Perfect location. Great host. – Mike from United Kingdom – 3 February 2025 (10/10)
Everything. Location and everything in the apartment was perfect.
What could be improved: Road noise when sliding door was open.Lovely stay and very well priced for the quality. – Richard from Australia – 12 January 2025 (10/10)
Very well equipped and decorated apartment.
A lot of thought and expense has gone into creating a sophisticated living environment.Lovely small apartment in a great central location – Susan from Australia – 9 June 2025 (10/10)
Spectacular view of the lake and Canberra highlights
