Hotel Description
You know, when I first rolled up to the City Comfy Apartment on Bunda Street in Canberra – that’s right in the heart of the city center, just a stone’s throw from the Canberra Centre mall – I was honestly a bit skeptical. It’s one of those high-rise spots at 1401/240 Bunda Street, and pulling into the underground parking (which, by the way, is a lifesaver in Canberra’s unpredictable weather, but watch out for the tight spots if you’ve got a bigger car) felt like diving into a bustling urban hive. Check-in was a breeze, though – the front desk folks were super chill, no long lines even during peak tourist season in summer, and they handed over the keycard with a quick rundown of the Wi-Fi password and where to grab a decent flat white nearby. I mean, it’s not some grand lobby like you’d find in a fancy hotel, but that’s kind of the charm; it feels more like crashing at a mate’s place than a sterile chain. The elevator ride up gave me that first whiff of fresh linen – you know, that clean, almost citrusy scent that says someone’s put in the effort – and stepping into my apartment, well, it was bigger than I expected for a 4-star joint with an 8.4 rating. The views out over the city towards Lake Burley Griffin were a nice touch, especially at dusk when the lights start twinkling.
What really sold me on this place, though, was how it nailed that “comfy” part in the name without trying too hard. The apartment setup is genius for longer stays – think a full kitchenette with a proper stove and fridge (I whipped up a quick brekkie using stuff from the nearby Woolies supermarket on Akuna Street), and the bed was one of those plush ones that swallows you up after a day traipsing around the National Gallery or Parliament House. It’s quiet up there, too, despite being smack in the middle of things; I barely heard the street noise from Bunda, which can get rowdy on Friday nights with the bars spilling out. Honestly, the balcony was my favorite spot – sipping a beer while watching the joggers loop around the lake in the crisp morning air (Canberra mornings have that sharp, eucalyptus-tinged chill, especially in winter). There were a few minor gripes, like the bathroom being a tad compact if you’re sharing with someone, and the air con took a minute to kick in during a hot spell, but nothing that ruined the vibe. Oh, and the in-room laundry facilities? Game-changer for travelers like me who pack light and hate lugging dirty clothes around.
All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra and want somewhere that feels lived-in rather than just a pit stop, I’d say City Comfy is a solid pick – especially for families or solo adventurers who appreciate the self-catering angle. It’s not perfect, but that 8.4 rating feels spot-on; you get good value without the fluff. Just book ahead if you’re coming during events like Floriade in spring, when the city’s buzzing and spots fill up fast. Trust me, after a few nights here, you’ll leave feeling like you’ve got a little piece of Canberra sorted for your next trip.

Excellent location and nice apartment
What could be improved: Beds quite hard and furniture doesn't suit the modern apartmentGreat location, needs some love and TLC – Michael from Australia – 21 May 2025 (8/10)
The location was great, and the owners were lovely and helpful.
The apartment presented clean, other than smell (see below).
The blankets were great.
Heating was perfect.
Access to the gym and pool was a great option, but I didn't get to use it, though, due to the short length of our stay.
Having a piano in the room was so awesome, and it was in tune. It needs some love, but it was fun to play for a bit.
What could be improved: The shower had black mould growing everywhere in it, a simple mould killer would fix this issue.
The apartment smelled of stale cigarettes upon first entry, this disappeared after opening all the balcony access for a few hours.
The bed mattress was absolutely horrible, not as bad as Adina apartments, but I wouldn't want more than one night on it.So very good – Hon from Australia – 27 April 2025 (10/10)
