Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon CityStyle Apartments in Belconnen during a quick trip to Canberra last spring, and honestly, it was one of those places that just clicks when you’re not looking for anything flashy. Pulling up to 99 Eastern Valley Way, it’s tucked right there in the heart of Belconnen – you know, that northern suburb vibe where everything feels a bit more laid-back than the hustle of Civic. I mean, it’s super close to the Belconnen Mall if you need to grab some groceries or hit up a cafe, and Lake Ginninderra is just a short stroll away for those morning walks that make you forget you’re in a city. Check-in was a breeze; the staff were friendly without being over-the-top, and they sorted me out with a keycard in minutes – no fuss, even though I arrived right at peak hour after a drive from Sydney. The building itself has that modern apartment block feel, sort of clean lines and concrete, but with these big windows that let in tons of natural light. My room – well, apartment, really – was on the third floor, and stepping in, there was this faint, fresh linen smell that immediately made it feel homey, not like some sterile hotel chain.

What I loved most was how it nailed that self-contained setup for a 3-star spot. You’ve got a full kitchenette with a microwave, fridge, and even a little dishwasher – perfect for whipping up brekkie without blowing your budget on room service. I remember cooking up some pasta one night after exploring the Australian Institute of Sport nearby (it’s literally a 10-minute drive, and if you’re into fitness, that’s a hidden gem for tours). The bed was comfy enough, firm mattress with those soft, cottony sheets that don’t make you sweat in Canberra’s dry air, though the pillows were a tad flat – nothing a quick fluff couldn’t fix. Noise-wise, it’s pretty quiet most evenings, especially since Eastern Valley Way isn’t a major thoroughfare like the Barton Highway; you might hear the occasional car, but nothing that kept me up. Oh, and parking – there’s undercover spots right out front, which is a godsend during those random hail storms Canberra throws at you in summer. It’s not luxurious, mind you – the bathroom’s functional with decent water pressure, but the tiles could use a refresh – but for the price, it’s spot-on for families or solo travelers who want space to spread out. I even caught a glimpse of the sunset over the Brindabellas from my balcony, which added this unexpected touch of magic after a day out.

All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra and don’t want to shell out for something downtown, CityStyle is a solid pick – that 7.8 rating feels about right, you know? It’s authentic, no-frills comfort in a spot that’s easy to navigate, especially if you’re visiting the uni or catching a game at GIO Stadium (just down the road). I’d go back in a heartbeat for a weekend getaway, maybe in autumn when the leaves turn and it’s not too crowded. Just pack your own coffee if you’re picky – the in-room stuff is basic. Trust me, it’s the kind of place that grows on you.

Reviews

  • Comfy beds, close to most attractions and stores. – Lorraine from Australia – 18 June 2025 (8/10)

The apartment was in a great location to the attractions we wanted to visit. There is everything you need within 2 blocks of the apartment. Parking is secure. Beds comfy and heating was great for winter weather. Was also super helpful having the washing machine and a couple of powders provided.

What could be improved: There was mould on the bathroom roof and the roof above the blinds. There was someone’s pjs left on the back of the bathroom door, the shower floods the bathroom.

  • perfect – Susan from Australia – 17 March 2025 (9/10)

    location was perfect for us

  • We’d definitely stay there again. Secure parking and easy access to everything made it a great place to stay – Leanne from Australia – 16 March 2025 (9/10)

Great location and fantastic value for money

What could be improved: It felt a little cramped with the big coffee table in the middle of the walkway through the downstairs part of the house and got a little noisy because of the pool area on Saturday night.

  • Superb – Vicki from Australia – 10 March 2025 (9/10)

    Location, size of unit

What could be improved: Couple of minor issues on arrival, but Narelle was great, also Kim went above expected to correct issues.

  • Superb – Brett from Australia – 10 March 2025 (9/10)

    Close to everywhere, comfortable

What could be improved: Bed abit soft and small

  • Excellent – Mark from Australia – 7 March 2025 (9/10)

Convenient location to my needs, clean and tidy.

What could be improved: There is not enough kitchen cutlery ( 1 t spoon etc ) and the coffee and sugar supply was insufficient for my stay.
I drink 1 coffee in the morning and there were not enough to cover 3 days.

  • Very good – Scott from Australia – 6 March 2025 (8/10)

    Great facilities

What could be improved: I couldn’t find the ironing board

  • Had a very pleasant stay and will definitely be back – Bev from Australia – 23 February 2025 (8/10)

The apartment was great. It had everything I needed was comfortable and well located

What could be improved: Could do with a dust.

  • Great stay and we are likely to stay again – Jim from Australia – 23 February 2025 (8/10)

the location was great for our purpose of being close to Canberra University. Paid the extra for underground parking which made everything easier. Lovely apartment with comfy beds and good facilities. Will definitely return.

What could be improved: there was nothing really to not like although maybe clearer defined parking entry zones would be useful ie is it parking 1, 2 or 3.

  • Very good – Martin from Australia – 13 February 2025 (8/10)

Secure double car parking space, light and airy feel of the apartment.

    What could be improved: Nothing
