It’s tucked right near Glebe Park, which is this lovely little green spot that’s perfect for shaking off jet lag with a morning walk – think crunchy leaves underfoot in autumn, or the faint smell of eucalyptus if you’re there in warmer months. The hotel itself is a solid 4-star setup, nothing flashy, but honestly, that’s what makes it feel approachable. Check-in was a breeze; I got there around lunchtime after driving up from Sydney, and the staff were chatty without being over-the-top – one guy even tipped me off about the free parking out back, which is a godsend in a place like Civic where spots can vanish during peak hours (like when parliament’s in session and everyone’s scrambling).

What really won me over, though, was how it balances that central location with a surprisingly chill atmosphere. You’re literally a stone’s throw from Lake Burley Griffin – I mean, I wandered down there one evening and caught this stunning sunset reflecting off the water, with the National Gallery just a quick stroll away if you’re into art (pro tip: go on a weekday to avoid the school groups). The rooms are modern without trying too hard – mine had these big windows overlooking the park, letting in that fresh, crisp Canberra air that always smells a tad cleaner than Sydney’s. Bed was comfy, like sinking into a cloud after a day of exploring, and the bathroom had decent pressure in the shower, which isn’t always a given in older buildings around here. Oh, and breakfast – they do a buffet with fresh pastries and local jams that taste like they came straight from a Canberra market. It’s not gourmet, but it’s hearty, and I appreciated the quiet dining area; no blaring TVs or crowds, even during the busy Floriade festival season when the city’s buzzing. That said, the Wi-Fi could be spotty in the evenings – sort of a minor gripe if you’re trying to stream something after dark, but hey, it forced me to actually unplug and read a book for once.

All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra for work or just to tick off the sights like Questacon or the War Memorial – both an easy 10-15 minute walk from Coranderrk Street – Glebe Park 41 is a smart pick without breaking the bank. It’s got that 8.2 rating for a reason: reliable, well-located, and with enough personal touches to make you feel like a local rather than a tourist. I left thinking, you know what, I’d totally come back – maybe in winter when the park’s all frosty and the hotel’s cozy vibe really shines. If you’re not into super-luxe spots but want something practical and genuine, this one’s worth bookmarking.

  It was located close to Floriade. The bathrooms were good as was the kitchen. The bedrooms were a decent size. Undercover secure parking was a plus.

  The apartment is nice and clean. The location is great and very convenient to everything. The check in is easy though you need to pick up the keys from a different location which is a short drive.
  
  What could be improved: The air conditioner was not working when we were there, but there’s heater you can use. The keys cannot be left in the apartment when you check out and you have to return it by 10 am which is not ideal for holidayers.
