Hotel Description

You know, when I rolled up to the Inn Central Townhouse at Canberra last spring – right there on Torrens Street in Braddon, which is this funky little suburb that’s basically the heartbeat of the city – I was already half-exhausted from the drive down from Sydney. It’s tucked away on a quiet residential block, but honestly, you’re just a five-minute stroll from all the action in the city center. I mean, parking was a breeze; they have a few spots out front, though if you’re arriving during peak tourist season like summer, you might want to call ahead because it can get snatched up quick. Check-in was super laid-back – the staff were these friendly locals who chatted about the best coffee spots nearby (pro tip: hit up Sweet Bones for a vegan brekkie if that’s your thing). My room? It was one of those renovated townhouse suites, with high ceilings and these creaky wooden floors that sort of add to the charm, you know? Not too flashy, but clean as a whistle, and the bed was ridiculously comfy – like sinking into a cloud after a long day.

What really sold me on the place, though, was how it feels like a home away from home without trying too hard. It’s a 4-star spot, but it punches above its weight with that 8.8 rating for a reason – the little details, like fresh eucalyptus scents wafting through the hallways (hello, Aussie vibes) or the way the morning light filters through those big sash windows overlooking the garden. I spent one evening just chilling on the shared terrace with a glass of local wine, listening to the distant hum of traffic from Northbourne Avenue, but it wasn’t intrusive at all; actually, the area gets pretty peaceful after dark, especially mid-week when the office crowds thin out. Breakfast was included and surprisingly good – think fresh fruit, decent coffee, and those flaky croissants that smell like heaven. Oh, and if you’re into exploring, you’re literally steps from the Light Rail stop, so hopping over to Lake Burley Griffin for a sunset walk or even Parliament House is effortless. That said, the Wi-Fi could be a tad spotty in the older wings – nothing major, but if you’re working remotely, maybe stick to the lobby. Still, it’s got this authentic townhouse feel, with quirky art on the walls from local Canberra artists, which made it stand out from those sterile chain hotels downtown.

All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra for a mix of culture and chill – say, catching a show at the Canberra Theatre or just wandering the National Gallery – this place is a solid pick. It’s not the ritziest, but that’s kind of the appeal; you feel like you’re staying with friends rather than in some impersonal box. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in autumn when the leaves turn and the crowds are lighter. Just pack light layers – those Canberra nights can sneak up on you with a chill. Trust me, it’s worth it for that genuine slice of the capital.

    Highly recommended.

  • Unforgettable – Parampreet from Australia – 23 June 2025 (10/10)

    Location and layout

What could be improved: Everything was great

  • Beautiful, central, comfortable for a family. Fully equipped. Would stay again – Farrow from Australia – 22 June 2025 (10/10)

Loved the location and modern facilities, parking in garage and internal access. Heating was great, bathrooms fabulous. Privacy being on different floors from the kids

What could be improved: Not much! Maybe the 7 leaves of stairs are a for some but also they were great for our legs and keeping moving

  • Very good – Tabatha from Australia – 19 June 2025 (8/10)

Location is perfect for getting right into town, and accessing food in Lonsdale st! Good size, had most things we needed and beds were comfy.

  • It was an enjoyable 3 night stay and would definitely stay there again. – Lily from Australia – 9 June 2025 (8/10)

The property itself was very clean, within walking distance to the shopping centre, cafes, restaurants, bars & public transport.

What could be improved: The only downside to the property itself is, it needs to have proper window coverings (blockout curtains) in the living room when a sofa bed is an option for sleeping & for general privacy from neighbours. The shower in the main bedroom is very noisy and has very low water pressure as was the water pressure in other bathroom. The aircon does not work in the living room when it’s on whilst upstairs it gets extremely warm.

  • Superb – Xiaolan from Australia – 31 May 2025 (9/10)

    Brilliant

What could be improved: The only small thing is the air con is weak in living room and the kitchen. But the good one is they provided a heater which helps for the room temperature.

  • Modern and friendly staff – Riaz from Australia – 25 May 2025 (9/10)

    Modern and close to CBD.
The property manager was very accommodating in arranging early checkin for my family in the rainy day. It was much appreciated.

  • Clean and comfortable townhouse – centrally located. – Leanne from Australia – 20 May 2025 (8/10)

The property was clean and comfortable and well located. Lots of nearby restaurants and shopping.

What could be improved: Instructions for getting access to the keys and garbage room location could have been a little clearer.
In property description, might be good to include that the property is over 4 levels in case someone has problems with stairs.

  • Perfect location – Lauren from Australia – 18 May 2025 (10/10)

Central location for exploring Canberra. Shops & restaurants within walking distance. Spacious & clean interior. Highly recommend!

  • Comfortable place close to everything – Jorge from Australia – 12 May 2025 (9/10)
