It’s tucked away on Leichhardt Street, right in that leafy pocket of 2604 where the old warehouses meet the edge of Lake Burley Griffin. I mean, you can literally stroll down to the water in about five minutes for a morning jog or to catch the paddle boats if you’re into that – beats the sterile vibe of the city center hotels near Parliament House, where everything feels a bit too buttoned-up. Pulling up, the building has this understated brick facade that blends right in with the neighborhood’s mix of cafes and apartments; parking was a breeze, actually, with their secure underground spots – no circling for ages like you do in busier parts of Civic during peak tourist season.

What really sold me was the rooms – mine was on the third floor, overlooking a quiet courtyard with these massive eucalypts that rustled softly at night, drowning out any distant traffic hum from Manuka Oval nearby. The bed? Oh man, it was plush, with those crisp white sheets that smell faintly of lavender (they must use some fancy detergent), and the bathroom had a rain shower that felt like a mini spa after a long day exploring the National Gallery. Breakfast in the on-site cafe was solid – think fresh avo on toast with poached eggs, and coffee that’s actually decent, not the weak stuff you get at chain hotels. You know what, though? It’s not perfect; the Wi-Fi can lag a bit in the evenings when everyone’s streaming, especially around summer when families flock in for the Floriade festival – but hey, that’s Canberra for you, sort of low-key even in high season. I appreciated the little touches, like the complimentary bikes they lend out for cruising to the Old Bus Depot Markets on weekends; grabbed one and scored some handmade soaps that still remind me of the trip.

All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra and want somewhere that feels lived-in rather than touristy, Knightsbridge is a gem – four stars that punch above their weight with that 9/10 rating for a reason. It’s great for solo travelers or couples, quiet enough for a good night’s sleep without the isolation of those outlying motels near the airport. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in autumn when the leaves turn and the whole area glows – just book ahead if you’re timing it with events like the balloon festival, or you’ll miss out. Trust me, it’s the kind of place that makes you linger over that extra coffee, pondering why you don’t visit the capital more often.
