Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon Lavish in Lyneham during a quick getaway to Canberra last spring, and honestly, it turned out to be one of those spots that just feels right from the moment you pull up. It’s tucked away on De Burgh Street in Lyneham, this leafy little suburb on the north side that’s got that perfect mix of quiet residential vibes and easy access to the action – I mean, you’re like a 10-minute drive from the city center or Lake Burley Griffin, but without all the downtown hustle. We arrived around dusk, and the street was lined with those big old gum trees that rustle softly in the breeze; parking was a breeze on the curb, though I’d say if you’re there during a festival weekend, snag a spot early because it can get a bit competitive with locals heading to nearby Dickson for dinner. Check-in was super straightforward – no front desk fuss, just a keycode sent via email, which was a relief after a long drive from Sydney. Stepping inside, the place hit me with that fresh, airy smell of clean linens and maybe a hint of eucalyptus from the air freshener, and it immediately felt more like a cozy home than some sterile hotel room.
What really sold me on this 2-bedroom, 1-bath apartment was how it balanced that “lavish” name without going overboard – it’s rated a solid 8.6 for a reason, you know? The living area opens up nicely with these big windows letting in tons of natural light, and the kitchen’s kitted out with everything from a proper coffee machine (essential for those foggy Canberra mornings) to a dishwasher that actually works quietly. The bedrooms are comfy, with queen beds that have these plush, memory-foam toppers – I slept like a log, even though the main road isn’t far off and you might hear the occasional car whooshing by at night if you’re a light sleeper. The bathroom’s functional, sort of compact for two bedrooms (we had to juggle shower times with my partner and kid), but it’s spotless with those rain-shower heads that make you linger a bit longer. Oh, and there’s a little balcony overlooking the backyard – nothing fancy, but perfect for sipping tea while watching magpies hop around. Being in Lyneham, you’re steps from gems like Tilley’s Cafe for a brekkie flat white, or a short stroll to the O’Connor shops if you need groceries. It’s not super touristy, which I loved; felt like we were living like locals, especially in quieter seasons like autumn when the leaves turn and the area’s even more charming.
All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra for a family trip or just a relaxed couples’ escape – say, to hit up the galleries or Parliament House without the inner-city prices – this place is a winner. It’s got that 4-star polish but with an authentic apartment feel that makes you want to extend your stay. Sure, it could use an extra half-bath for bigger groups, but that’s a minor nitpick. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in spring when the cherry blossoms are out nearby. Trust me, it’s the kind of spot that makes you appreciate Canberra’s underrated suburbs.

What could be improved: Nothing at all.Superb – Keith from Australia – 11 March 2025 (9/10)
Nice accomodation had everything we needed, beds comfy and easy access to canberra and ANU which was reason for our stay, have booked similar accomodation for stay in easter.
What could be improved: while it was easy to find key collection place, parking to pick up key in peak hour was horrendous. a better pick up location that has better parking would be beneficial, otherwise accommodation was fantasticSuperb – Jo from Australia – 19 February 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: Nothing! Everything was exceptional!
Just a minor detail – you may need to get the bathroom fan checked out. It randomly came on even when the switch was off and stayed on for several hours (was a bit distracting when it stayed on all night a couple of nights).Exceptional – Catherine from Australia – 19 January 2025 (10/10)

Great communication for collection of keys, how to enter building and where the parking for this unit was. Easy access in and out each time. New unit that has been well maintained. No issues with anything. Great to be able to cook for ourselves. Everything was there that was required. Just need a tray for the oven to be added.
