Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon the Lovely City 1BR Apt during a quick getaway to Canberra last spring – honestly, it was one of those finds that makes you feel like you’ve cracked the code on traveling smart. Pulling up to 65 Cooyong Street in the heart of the city, right there in the 2601 postcode, I was immediately relieved by the free parking spot – and let me tell you, in Canberra’s bustling Civic area, that’s no small miracle. Parking fees can eat into your budget faster than you think, especially if you’re driving in from Sydney or Melbourne like I did. The place faces straight onto the Canberra Centre mall, which is fantastic if you’re into grabbing a quick coffee or browsing shops without much effort. I mean, I stepped out the door and was at Guzman y Gomez for tacos in under two minutes – talk about convenient. The building itself has that modern, unpretentious vibe, not too flashy but clean and welcoming, and check-in was a breeze with the keyless entry code they emailed ahead. No awkward lobby waits, just straight to your own little sanctuary after a long drive.
What really sold me, though, was how it felt like a proper home base rather than some sterile hotel room – it’s a one-bedroom apartment, after all, with a full kitchen that actually has decent pots and pans (none of that flimsy stuff you sometimes get). The living area opens up to a balcony overlooking the mall, so you get these lively city views without feeling exposed – well, except maybe during peak shopping hours when the chatter from below drifts up, but it’s more energizing than annoying. I loved brewing my morning tea and watching the world wake up; there’s even a comfy couch that begs for Netflix binges after a day exploring. Sensory-wise, the place smells fresh, like they’ve just aired it out with eucalyptus or something – fitting for Australia, right? And the bed? Super plush, with those crisp white sheets that make you sleep like a log, even if Cooyong Street can get a bit noisy with early traffic during weekday rush hours. It’s sort of tucked away from the main drags, though, so nights are surprisingly quiet. Oh, and being so close to Braddon – you know, that trendy suburb just a short stroll north with all the hip cafes like Lonsdale Street Roasters – made it easy to pop out for brunch without needing a car. I wandered over to Lake Burley Griffin one afternoon, about a 15-minute walk, and it felt like the perfect balance of city buzz and chill vibes.
All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra for work or just to see the sights – maybe hit up Parliament House or the National Gallery – this spot’s a gem for anyone wanting that 4-star comfort without the hefty price tag. The 9 rating? Totally earned; it’s clean, thoughtful, and gives you space to breathe in a city that can feel a tad formal otherwise. Sure, if you’re super sensitive to urban hum, pack earplugs for those busier times, but honestly, I’d book it again in a heartbeat. It’s great for couples or solo travelers who appreciate the little things, like not stressing over parking or where to eat next – makes the whole trip feel effortless, you know?

Convenient Location and Comfortable Stay – Deep from Australia – 3 November 2024 (9/10)
Great apartment with an excellent location—right across from Citi Center Mall! The apartment was clean and well-maintained, making for a comfortable stay. We picked up the keys from a shop on the ground level. Overall, a very pleasant experience, and I’d happily stay here again!
What could be improved: The only downside was the checkout process. You have to move your car from the basement parking, find a spot outside (with no free parking available on the ground level), and then go back up to drop the key in a locker inside the room. I understand that building security limitations make this tricky, but it would be great if an alternative could be arranged.Great place to stay – Alison from New Zealand – 27 May 2024 (10/10)
Location is brilliant-right opposite the mall with lots of eating options, supermarket etc. Apartment is roomy, has a great washer and dryer. Everything was great.
Good place for a – Niall from Australia – 25 May 2024 (8/10)
Everything I needed.
What could be improved: A bit of a hassle having to get the car out before parking outside to return the keys. But no biggie. There should also be black tea bags available. The ironing board was broken. Was suitable for a short stay – Susan from Australia – 19 March 2024 (8/10)
Location, cleanliness, free undercover parking
What could be improved: Balcony door wouldn't lock. Broken fridge handle. No microwave dishes. Unable to access Netflix. Block out curtains would be good. Confusion over check out procedureExceptional – Deb from Australia – 12 February 2025 (10/10)
Exceptional – Sam from Australia – 6 August 2024 (10/10)
Good – Rob from Australia – 26 October 2024 (7/10)
