Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon the Luxury Apartment in the Popular NewActon Precinct while planning a quick getaway to Canberra last spring – hosted by CanStay, right in the heart of 2601, which is basically that buzzing corner of the city where everything feels alive but not overwhelmingly chaotic. I mean, pulling up to the building on Edinburgh Avenue, I was half-expecting some generic spot, but honestly, it had this sleek, modern vibe that screamed “urban oasis” without trying too hard. Check-in was a breeze – no front desk drama, just a key code sent via app, and I was in within minutes. The apartment itself? Spacious for a 3-star setup, with these big windows overlooking the precinct’s quirky street art and those leafy paths that lead right down to Lake Burley Griffin. I remember the faint smell of fresh coffee drifting up from the cafes below – like Mocan & Green Grout, which is literally steps away and does killer brunches. But fair warning, if you’re driving, parking can be a bit of a hunt during peak hours; I ended up in a nearby multi-story lot off Marcus Clarke Street, which wasn’t too pricey but added a short walk with my bags.

What really sold me was how it felt like a home base rather than just a crash pad – you know, the kind of place where you can actually unwind after a day exploring. The living area had this plush sectional sofa that was perfect for flopping down with a glass of local wine (picked up from the NewActon Pavilion market on weekends – highly recommend if you’re into artisanal stuff). The kitchen was fully kitted out – think shiny appliances, a proper oven, and even a dishwasher, which saved me from post-dinner cleanup woes. Bed was comfy, sheets crisp and cool, though the bathroom could use a tad more water pressure in the shower; it was fine, but not spa-level luxurious. Noise-wise, it’s lively in the evenings with folks spilling out from bars like Monster Kitchen, but it quiets down by 10 pm or so – except maybe during summer festivals when the whole precinct hums with events. I loved wandering out to the lake for a sunset stroll; it’s just a five-minute jaunt, and you get those stunning views of Parliament House across the water. Oh, and if you’re into culture, the National Film and Sound Archive is right around the corner – I caught a free screening one afternoon, total hidden gem.

All in all, with its 7.7 rating, this spot’s not flawless – the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times during my stay, and it’s more “affordable luxury” than five-star opulence – but for Canberra, where things can get pricey quick, it’s a smart pick if you want to feel plugged into the city’s creative side without breaking the bank. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in autumn when the leaves turn and the crowds thin out. If you’re visiting for work or just to chill, it gives you that insider feel to NewActon, like you’re living like a local rather than a tourist. Trust me, grab a coffee downstairs, hit the paths, and you’ll see what I mean.

Great location. 30 minute walk to National Gallery. Plenty of room for a couple. Comfortable bed. Nice to have a balcony so we could sit outside. Secure building with underground parking. Good restaurants close by. We would definitely stay there again.

What could be improved: There were some maintenance issues but the owners were very responsive and sorted things quickly.
