Canberra’s inner south has that leafy, laid-back charm – think tree-lined streets and those classic Australian suburb vibes – and this place sits right in the heart of Manuka, which is honestly one of my favorite pockets of the city. It’s not some flashy high-rise; it’s more like a cluster of modern apartments that blend in with the neighborhood, you know? I arrived mid-afternoon during a quiet weekday in spring, and check-in was a breeze – the staff were super friendly, no fuss with paperwork, and they even pointed out a free parking spot out back, which is gold in this area because street parking can get dicey around dinner time when everyone hits the cafes. The air smelled fresh, like eucalyptus from the nearby parks, and there was this gentle hum from folks wandering to the shops on Franklin Street – nothing overwhelming, just that perfect low-key energy that makes you feel like you’ve escaped the tourist traps downtown.

Stepping into my apartment – I went for a one-bedroom, which felt spacious without being over-the-top – it was like walking into a friend’s well-kept home, not some sterile hotel room. The kitchenette had everything: a proper stove, microwave, even a dishwasher, which saved me from eating out every night (though, let’s be real, with places like Gus’ Place for coffee or the Italian joints on Palmerston Lane just a five-minute stroll away, I caved more than once). The bed was comfy, with those crisp white sheets that actually feel clean, and the balcony overlooked a little courtyard – quiet in the evenings, except for the occasional chatter from neighbors barbecuing, which added to the charm, I think. Oh, and the Wi-Fi was solid, no buffering during my late-night Netflix binge, but fair warning, the walls are a tad thin, so if you’re a light sleeper, pack earplugs for those early mornings when the birds get chatty. I mean, it’s serviced apartments, so they come in every few days to tidy up, which was a lifesaver after I spilled coffee on the rug – no drama, they sorted it without batting an eye. And being so close to the lake – Lake Burley Griffin is maybe a 15-minute walk – I squeezed in a jog most mornings, dodging the cyclists on the paths; it’s busiest in summer when the festivals hit, but off-peak, it’s blissfully serene.

All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra for work or just to explore – say, checking out Parliament House or the galleries without the hassle of the city center traffic – Manuka Park is a smart pick. It’s got that 4-star polish with an 8.5 rating that feels earned, not hyped, and at around that price point, you’re getting value without skimping on the little things that matter, like a laundry in the unit (huge for longer stays). Sure, it’s not right on the action if you’re all about nightlife – Manuka winds down early – but for a relaxed base, it’s spot-on. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in autumn when the leaves turn and the whole area just glows.

  Josh was very welcoming, carried luggage into our room.Apartment was well equipped, bed comfortable and aircon quiet and effective.-7 degrees over night. Close to facilities and walk to lake.
