You know, I stumbled upon the Metropol 3 during a quick trip to Canberra last spring, and honestly, it turned out to be one of those spots that just clicks – comfy, a touch luxurious without being stuffy, and right in the thick of things on Boolee Street. I mean, pulling up to 1 Boolee Street in the 2612 area, you’re basically smack in the middle of Braddon’s vibe, that trendy pocket north of the city center where all the cool cafes and breweries are popping up. I drove in from Sydney, and let me tell you, that free parking was a godsend – no circling blocks like you do in Civic during peak hours, just a secure spot out back that saved me a headache (and probably 20 bucks a day). Check-in was a breeze, too; the staff were these laid-back Aussies who chatted about the best spots for a flat white nearby, like that little joint on Lonsdale Street. The lobby has this warm, modern feel – think plush armchairs, a faint scent of eucalyptus from the diffusers, and none of that overwhelming hotel perfume that hits you like a wall.

What really sold me, though, was how the place balances that 4-star polish with actual comfort – you feel like you’re staying in a fancy apartment rather than some impersonal tower. My room on the third floor overlooked a quiet courtyard, and oh man, the bed was like sinking into a cloud, with those high-thread-count sheets that make you want to hit snooze forever. It’s got all the little luxuries: a Nespresso machine (stocked with pods, no skimping), a rain shower that actually has decent pressure, and even USB ports everywhere so you’re not fumbling for adapters. I appreciated the soundproofing, too – Boolee Street can get a bit noisy with morning traffic heading towards the lake, but inside, it was peaceful, just the soft hum of the air con. Well, sort of – there was this one night when construction from a nearby site on Mort Street crept in around dawn, but nothing a white noise app couldn’t fix. And for a central spot, it’s surprisingly chill; I wandered out to Lake Burley Griffin for a sunset walk, which is like a 15-minute stroll, or hopped on a bus to Parliament House without much fuss. Food-wise, the on-site cafe does a solid brekkie – eggs benny with avocado that rivals what you’d get at Mocan & Green Grout down the road – though it’s not open super late, so plan accordingly if you’re a night owl.

All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra for work or just to soak up the capital’s underrated charm – think crisp autumn leaves crunching underfoot or those quiet winter evenings when the fog rolls in off the Brindabellas – the Metropol 3 is a smart pick. It’s got that 8.7 rating for a reason, blending luxury with practicality without breaking the bank (rooms start around $200, which feels fair for the location). Sure, it could use a few more vegan options on the menu, but that’s a minor gripe. I’d go back in a heartbeat – actually, I already recommended it to my mate who’s visiting for the Floriade festival next year. You won’t regret it if you’re after a spot that feels like home base in the heart of it all.

  What could be improved: Getting the key was complicated and ended up involving a call to the host. The method of communicating the location of the key lead to not understanding what needed to be done (in a different building on a separate street, behind another flat's front gate in a shed, in a key lock). A photo of the flat was sent in a message, however the critical information on getting the key was not in what seemed to be just the one picture but various pictures in and consequently missed. There has to be a more fool proof way of doing it.

  The apartment was great. There was heaps of space and the kitchen was very well-equipped. It was really handy having a washing machine as well. The process to pick up the keys and access the apartment was very complicated but detailed instructions were provided. Communication prior to arrival was excellent.
  
  What could be improved: There was no available street parking that we could use temporarily while we picked up the keys, so we had to park illegally in a permit-only area. There was some road noise.

  You can't beat the location. We stayed for 3 nights and found the apartment to be well appointed with an ample supply of coffee, tea, condiments and filtered water in the fridge. The apartment in general is very well appointed located on the 3rd floor. The bed was very comfortable. It is located across the road from a park, shopping centre and restaurants. Hosts provide a very detailed self check in procedure for key collection and the use of the secure underground car park. We found them to be very friendly and helpful.

  Incredibly well and expensively equipped. Very stylish and comfortable. Slept very well in excellent bed. So thoughtfully provisioned e.g varieties of milk and tea, capsules for the Nespresso machine, shampoo, conditioner etc etc.. Cannot be faulted. Will recommend to everyone.
