Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon this spot in Canberra last spring when I was there for a quick getaway – it’s called the Modern 2 Bdrm Apt with Water Views, right on Eastlake Parade in Kingston, that leafy suburb hugging Lake Burley Griffin. Honestly, pulling up to number 29 felt like a breath of fresh air after the drive from Sydney; the building’s got that sleek, unpretentious vibe – not too flashy, but modern enough that you feel like you’re in a proper apartment rather than some sterile hotel room. I mean, the water views? They’re legit – you wake up to the lake sparkling in the morning light, with those paddle boats drifting by and maybe a few rowers cutting through the water if you’re there early enough. Check-in was a breeze, too; it’s one of those self-service deals with a code, no fussing with a front desk, which is perfect if you’re arriving late after dodging the traffic on the Monaro Highway. And get this – two dedicated car spots! In Canberra, where parking can be a nightmare around the parliamentary triangle, that’s a godsend. I parked my rental right there, no circling blocks like you might in busier spots near Civic.
Stepping inside, it’s all about that open-plan living – two bedrooms that are surprisingly spacious, with queen beds that actually feel plush, not the rock-hard ones you sometimes get in rentals. The kitchen’s kitted out with everything from a Nespresso machine (hello, morning caffeine fix) to a full oven, so I whipped up a simple brekkie while gazing out at the lake – there’s this fresh, watery scent that drifts in if you crack the windows, mixed with the faint eucalyptus from the nearby trees. It’s got that lived-in touch, you know? Soft linens, a comfy couch that begs for Netflix binges, and even a little balcony where I sat with a glass of local Riesling from the Canberra wine region – picked some up from the markets in Braddon, which is just a 10-minute drive away. Well, sort of a critique: the place is on the pricier side for a 4-star rating (we’re talking around 8.5 out of 10 on most sites, which feels spot-on), and if you’re a light sleeper, you might hear the occasional hum of cars from the parade during rush hour. But nothing that drowned out the peace – it’s quiet by evening, especially in the off-season when the tourists thin out.
All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra for work or to check out the sights – like wandering over to the National Gallery or catching a sunset at the Kingston Foreshore eateries, which are literally a stone’s throw away – this apartment makes the trip feel effortless. It’s not trying to be some luxury resort; it’s just a solid, homey base with those killer views and parking perks that save you headaches. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in autumn when the leaves turn and the lake paths are perfect for a stroll. Trust me, it’s the kind of place that turns a standard visit into something memorable without all the bells and whistles.

Perfect position for short stay in Canberra – Lisa from Australia – 5 June 2025 (9/10)
The location was perfect and the views from the main room and master bedroom were really lovely. It was so central to all the areas we wanted to visit. An easy walk along Lake Burley Griffen to the NGA, National Portrait Gallery and Glass Factory. We even walked into the Kingston shops. So much choice for coffee and dinner right under the apartment along the Kingston foreshore.
Everything in the apartment was comfortable and well set up for a short stay.
What could be improved: We could have done with some rubbish bins in the bathrooms and some clothes hooks on the backs of the doors. Also the second bedroom did not have a very pleasant view and seemed to be a roosting spot for pigeons. It was pretty dirty!! Maybe the other bedroom which was locked for our stay might have been a nicer option.Great appartment, and good location. – Richard from Australia – 27 April 2025 (10/10)
Great location.
Extremely enjoyable – Helena from Australia – 13 April 2025 (10/10)
Great location with fantastic views over the lake. Restaurants close by and had a fantastic dinner at Rakku. Enjoyed the walks especially in the evening and a lovely sunset.
Excellent property in a fabulous location with views and close to many of Canberra's attractions – Gaylene from Australia – 11 March 2025 (10/10)
The location was excellent with a beautiful view across the harbour and easy access to restaurants and Lake Burley Griffin walking path. The property was very clean and comfortable with everything we needed (and more!). It is directly above a vibrant restaurant strip (so convenient!) but we found that the double glazing ensured any noise from outside did not disturb us greatly. Highly recommend.
