Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon this spot when I was in Canberra last spring – the Modern New 1-Bedroom Apartment on Currong Street North, right in the heart of the city. It’s tucked away in that quieter pocket of Braddon, just a stone’s throw from the buzz of Northbourne Avenue, where all the trams rattle by during rush hour. Honestly, arriving there after a long drive from Sydney felt like a relief; parking was a bit of a squeeze – you might have to circle the block for a street spot if the building’s garage is full, especially on weekends when everyone’s hitting up the markets at EPIC (that’s the Exhibition Park, if you’re not familiar). But once I got the keys – check-in was super straightforward, just a code sent via email, no fussing with a front desk – I stepped inside and thought, wow, this place actually lives up to its “modern” name. The air had that fresh, just-cleaned scent, like lemon polish mixed with whatever they use for those crisp white linens, and the floor-to-ceiling windows let in heaps of natural light, making the whole apartment feel bigger than it is.
What really sold me was how it balances that sleek, new-build vibe with some practical touches that make you feel at home, not like you’re in some sterile hotel room. It’s a proper one-bedroom setup – queen bed that’s comfy enough for a solid night’s sleep, though the pillows were a tad firm for my liking (bring your own if you’re picky). The kitchenette’s got everything: a full fridge, microwave, even a Nespresso machine that I abused for my morning caffeine fix. I mean, it’s not gourmet, but whipping up brekkie while overlooking the treetops towards Glebe Park was a nice touch – especially in autumn when the leaves are turning all those rusty colors. Noise-wise, it’s mostly peaceful at night; Canberra’s not exactly a party city, but you might hear the occasional siren from the nearby hospital or trams clanging early if you’re a light sleeper. Oh, and the bathroom? Spotless, with one of those rain showers that feels luxurious after a day wandering around Lake Burley Griffin or the National Gallery – just a 10-minute walk away, by the way. I appreciated the little balcony too; nothing fancy, but sipping wine out there as the sun sets over the Brindabellas in the distance? That’s the kind of quiet magic that makes Canberra special, you know? It’s rated around 7.3, which feels fair – solid value for a 4-star spot, but don’t expect concierge service or a pool; it’s more self-contained, like your own pied-à-terre.
All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra for work or to check out the parliament vibes – maybe during Floriade season when the flowers are exploding everywhere – this apartment’s a smart pick. It’s not flawless; the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times during peak hours, and the decor’s a bit minimalist if you prefer cozy clutter. But for the price, and that central location without being right in the thick of Civic’s foot traffic, I’d book it again in a heartbeat. Gives you that independent traveler feel, like you’re actually living in the capital for a bit, rather than just passing through. Trust me, pair it with a coffee run to Lonsdale Street’s cafes, and you’ve got a trip sorted.

Stylish apartment but little things could be better – Candice from Australia – 13 June 2023 (8/10)
Perfect location, walking distance to CBD. A few good cafe just at door step. Apartment is quite new, reasonable size for a family of 4. Kitchen is fully equipped.
What could be improved: I didn't get check-in instruction until 1.5 hours later than check in time, and I had to remind the host. Small things for improvement, room curtain is a bit out of shape, the lights from walkway could not get blocked completely.
I would suggest to supply small package of toiletries, so the leftover toiletries can be disposed.
TV remove is not working well. Only if you really want to watch certain programs, you may find a bit annoying.Good – Glenn from Australia – 9 June 2023 (7/10)
location was great
What could be improved: no cups, plates ectCentral Comfort – Nicola from Australia – 18 May 2023 (8/10)
Convenient location for CBD restaurants and shops.Good sized apartment with parking
What could be improved: Pre arrival access arrangements should be clearer in Booking.comGood Unit but Unpleasant Communications – H from Australia – 5 April 2023 (6/10)
The location is strategic. Near the CBD, lots of restaurants nearby, and the Canberra Centre shopping mall is just a stone's throw away. The apartment is nice and well-equipped.
What could be improved: (1) The entrance to the underground parking is not easily found. (2) The power points locations in the unit are not user-friendly. (3) The communication with the owner was extremely annoying. They sent long house rules and requirements. Everything makes you feel like in case of anything, there won't be any help/support provided, but just a series of punishments. The worst thing was, they were sent REPEATEDLY! When you get into the unit, these are again seen at the entry door and fridge! Late checkout is $30 for every 15 mins. Need to leave towels and bath mats in the laundry sink. Need to bring along garbage. Photo proof is required upon key return. The most speechless thing was – she cheekily asked for a 10-star review without even asking how we feel, and in the meantime treated their guests like boarding school students or prisoners. If you don't want to experience all this, better go to a hotel.Great location, not great with a car, too hard to get access. Lots of codes and regulations. – Kerry from Australia – 3 March 2023 (7/10)
The apartment was very comfortable and close to a large shopping centre which was great.
What could be improved: The check in and check out arrangements were very convoluted, with long messages from the host. We had a car and there was no where to park while we got the access card from the locked post box. We then had to get up to the apartment and unlock a key box to get the key and fob for the parking. It was all very stressful. I had to send pictures to prove that I had put the key and fob back into to locked box before 10am. I wouldn’t recommend it as a place to stay if you have a car.a convenient location close to all amenities and sightseeing – Darcy from Australia – 22 February 2023 (7/10)
clean, convenient
What could be improved: check in/out requirements. parking a bit of an issue.Very good – Kim from Australia – 23 June 2025 (8/10)
Prompt response times by the host.
What could be improved: Getting the key was a very convoluted process, unpleasant after being on the road and then looking in freezing cold Canberra. Getting out was confusing too.Good location – Tim from Australia – 13 November 2024 (6/10)
Location was good – easy access to Canberra Centre zcross thd road. Instructions were clear for keys & access. Facilities were good though.
What could be improved: No GSM in the building, lounge was super uncomfortable, dogs barking. No coffee pods for machine.Great location – Scott from Australia – 22 March 2023 (8/10)
Great location, very modern, secure parking
What could be improved: Key pickup was convoluted, someone next door kept slamming their door early morning, bed was way too hard, while the apartment was quite well stocked (coffee etc) there was no milk or sugar, only part of a roll of toilet paper for a two night stay in unit.Good – Paul from Australia – 11 December 2022 (7/10)
Location good
What could be improved: Blind in bedroom does not block out light coming from outside
