You know, I stumbled upon Nice in New Acton during a quick getaway to Canberra last spring, and honestly, it turned out to be one of those spots that just clicks without trying too hard. It’s tucked away on Marcus Clarke Street, right in the heart of New Acton – that funky little precinct that’s sort of Canberra’s answer to a hipster village, with all those street art murals and pop-up markets. I mean, pulling up after a long drive from Sydney, I was beat, but the check-in was a breeze; no fuss at the front desk, just a friendly local who handed over the keys and pointed out the secure underground parking – which, fair warning, can get a bit tight during peak hours when everyone’s scrambling for spots near the lake. The apartment itself? It’s a solid 2-bedroom, 2-bath setup on one of the upper floors, nothing flashy but super practical for a group or family. Walking in, there’s this fresh, airy feel – like someone just aired out the place with eucalyptus-scented linens – and the balcony overlooks the bustle below, where you can hear the distant hum of coffee grinders from ONA Coffee down the block.

What really sold me, though, was how it feels like you’re actually living in Canberra rather than just visiting. The kitchen’s kitted out with everything – a proper oven, dishwasher, even those little pods for the Nespresso machine – so I whipped up breakfast with stuff from the nearby NewActon Pavilion markets (pro tip: go early on weekends to snag fresh sourdough before the ANU students swarm it). The beds are comfy, with those plush pillows that make you sink in after a day wandering around Lake Burley Griffin, which is literally a 10-minute stroll away along Gordon Street. Oh, and the bathrooms? Spacious, with rain showers that actually have decent pressure – none of that weak trickle you get in some places. It’s not without its quirks, mind you; the Wi-Fi can lag a bit in the evenings when everyone’s streaming, and if you’re a light sleeper, you might catch the faint echo of traffic from Northbourne Avenue during rush hour. But overall, it’s got that 4-star vibe without the pretension – rated around 8.4 last I checked, which feels spot on. I spent my afternoons chilling on the couch, flipping through local mags they leave out, smelling the faint woodsy aroma from the timber floors that just screams “Aussie design.”

Look, if you’re heading to Canberra for work or a weekend escape – say, during the quieter autumn months when the leaves turn and it’s not sweltering – this place is a gem. It’s close enough to Civic for easy access to spots like the National Gallery (a quick walk via Edinburgh Avenue), but tucked away so you don’t feel overwhelmed by the city noise. Honestly, I’d go back in a heartbeat; it’s that rare find where you get space, comfort, and a real taste of the neighborhood without breaking the bank. Just pack light – the elevators are speedy but small – and you’ll be set.

  Great location and facilities. Gym included was wonderful. The unit was lovely, clean and very spacious. Secure parking included was excellent. Great location when attending Floriade because it was walking distance from the event.
  
  What could be improved: The key had to be collected at a separate location. If we weren’t travelling by car, this would have been inconvenient.

  The location was central, and the apartment was modern, with good views and facilities. The beds were comfortable.
  
  What could be improved: You didn't tell us that we had to pick the keys from a doggie place few kilometres away from the apartment. We have been told about picking the keys after we arrived, very unprofessional. There was also a $500 bond that there is no mention about when we booked. We couldn't leave our bags to allow for our afternoon flight etc.. Be more clear and inform customers about what to expect in advance.
  And minor issue, there were only 3 cubs for coffee in an apartment that we booked and paid for four persons.

  The location was great, as were the views, the layout of the apartment, the facilities and the shower – first class water pressure! 🙂
  
  What could be improved: Key pickup at another location was awkward – there must be a better system than this. Also, the bed in the master bedroom needs a new mattress (the current one sags substantially), and there is no place for 100% polyester sheets in any accommodation aiming to offer a five star experience.
