Rydges Canberra Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Rydges Canberra, you immediately get that feeling of being somewhere important — and honestly, you are. This four-star property sits right at the corner of Canberra Avenue and National Circuit in Forrest, which means you’re basically in the heart of Australia’s political power center. The lobby has this understated elegance that feels very Canberra, if you know what I mean — professional without being stuffy, modern but not trying too hard to impress.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s the thing about staying in Canberra — location is everything, and Rydges nails it. You’re walking distance to Parliament House, which is pretty surreal when you think about it, and the National Gallery is just across the way. I mean, couples seem to get this because they consistently rate the location 8.7 out of 10, and I totally understand why. You can actually explore the city properly from here without spending half your day figuring out transport. Plus, there’s parking right at the hotel, which — trust me — is a bigger deal than you might think in this part of town.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a solid four-star place — clean lines, comfortable bed, and everything you need without unnecessary frills. The windows are decent sized, so you get good natural light during the day, and the bathroom is well-appointed. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s genuinely comfortable and well-maintained. You know how some hotels feel like they’re trying too hard? This isn’t one of those places — it just does what it does well.
Breakfast and Dining
The buffet breakfast is honestly pretty solid — they’ve got the usual suspects but done well, with some nice Australian touches that feel authentic rather than touristy. The restaurant area has this relaxed vibe that works whether you’re grabbing a quick coffee before heading to meetings or settling in for a proper meal. I actually found myself lingering over breakfast longer than usual, partly because the space is comfortable and partly because, well, there’s something nice about starting your day somewhere that feels this settled and professional.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Rydges Canberra isn’t trying to be the flashiest hotel in Australia, and that’s exactly why it works so well. It’s the kind of place that gets the fundamentals right — the location puts you where you want to be, the service is reliable without being fussy, and everything just… works. Whether you’re here for politics, culture, or just exploring the capital, you’ll appreciate having a solid base that doesn’t complicate your stay. The fact that couples consistently love the location tells you something important — this is a place where you can actually enjoy Canberra rather than just survive it.

The buffet breakfast is nice. Family room (sleeping four) is good value.
What could be improved: The shower head was not adjustable and overshot the cubicle. What could be improved: Toilet kept resetting every 3-5 minutes very loud keeping everyone up all nightSpacious rooms but average service and below average breakfast – Adele from Australia – 13 June 2025 (7/10)
Spacious rooms
What could be improved: There was a clear staff shortage over the long weekend. There were long lines at the check in counter and a lack of service at breakfast. We waited 30 mins for coffee and when it arrived it was cold. The breakfast buffet had a poor selection and wasn’t restocked as often as required. At one stage there were no forks and plates.Ramireznovoa from Australia – 11 June 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: Not enough staff at the breakfast time. Had to wait long for food and crockeryComfortable and good value for money – Warwick from Australia – 8 June 2025 (8/10)
Clean and well presented
What could be improved: The bed was too soft and you rolled into the middle
