Oh man, let me tell you about this spot I crashed at in Canberra last spring – The Hamptons, that Lux 2 Bed 2 Bath unit on Dooring Street in Dickson. I rolled up after a long drive from Sydney, and honestly, finding it was a breeze; it’s right off Northbourne Avenue, you know, that main drag with the light rail whizzing by every few minutes. No hunting for parking like in some of those packed Civic spots – there’s secure underground spots for guests, which was a lifesaver because I had my bike in the back. Check-in was super chill; it’s one of those self-service deals with a code they email you, but if you’re like me and show up early, the host popped over within 10 minutes to sort it out. The building itself has this modern vibe, sort of sleek concrete and glass, but not in a cold way – more like it fits right into the trendy Braddon neighborhood vibe, where you’ve got those hip cafes spilling out onto the sidewalks just a five-minute stroll away.

Stepping inside the unit – Unit 302, up on the third floor – it felt like walking into someone’s actual home, not some sterile hotel room. The place is spacious, with these big windows letting in that crisp Canberra light, and the two bedrooms are legit comfortable; one has this king bed that swallowed me up after a day hiking around Mount Ainslie (which, by the way, is only a 15-minute drive from here). The bathrooms are fancy without being over-the-top – think rain showers and those fluffy towels that actually smell fresh, not like they’ve been through a hundred washes. Oh, and the kitchen? Fully stocked, so I whipped up brekkie with stuff from the Dickson Woolies right around the corner. The pool’s a highlight, down in the courtyard – it’s heated, which is clutch in those cooler months when Canberra’s wind kicks in, but fair warning, it can get a bit crowded on weekends if families are in town for parliament sittings or whatever. Noise-wise, it’s pretty quiet at night; you might hear the occasional tram ding from Northbourne, but nothing that kept me up – actually, it added to that urban hum I kinda like. One tiny gripe: the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times during peak evening hours, but hey, it’s Canberra, not Silicon Valley.

All in all, if you’re heading to the capital for a weekend getaway or even a work trip – I mean, it’s dead central, walking distance to the ANU campus or a quick Uber to Lake Burley Griffin for those sunset paddles – this place is a solid pick. At 4 stars with that 9.3 rating, it lives up to the hype without feeling pretentious. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in autumn when the leaves turn and the air’s got that fresh, eucalyptus tang. You know what? Book it if you want somewhere that feels luxurious but real, like you’re borrowing a mate’s pad in the heart of it all. Just pack light – the laundry facilities are top-notch, so you won’t need much.

    Great apartment. I would be happy to live permanently in such an apartment. The kitchen equipment and food was great.

    What could be improved: Beds were tiny for two tall people. The check in process of needing to go to the IGA was tedious. I’ve been in airbnbs that have a lock kept outside in the same building where you can pick up the keys, which is so much easier.
