Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon The Sebel Canberra Campbell kind of by accident last spring – I was in town for a quick work trip and needed something not too flashy but close enough to the action without the downtown chaos. It’s tucked away on Provan Street in Campbell, this leafy suburb that’s honestly one of Canberra’s best-kept secrets if you’re not into the tourist hordes around Civic. Pulling up, the place has that understated vibe – modern apartments with clean lines, no over-the-top lobby drama, just a friendly check-in desk where the staff actually remembered my name from the booking (a nice touch after a long drive from Sydney). Parking was a breeze too; they have secure spots underground, which is gold in Canberra where street parking can be a nightmare, especially during peak parliamentary sessions when everyone’s scrambling around nearby Constitution Avenue.

What really won me over was how it feels like a home base rather than just a hotel – I mean, these are proper serviced apartments, so my one-bedroom suite had a full kitchen (hello, fresh coffee from the in-room machine that didn’t taste like regret) and a balcony overlooking some quiet gardens. The bed was plush, with those crisp white sheets that smell faintly of lavender – subtle, not overpowering – and the bathroom had decent water pressure, which, let’s be real, isn’t always a given in Aussie hotels. I loved wandering out early mornings to the nearby Lake Burley Griffin paths; it’s just a short stroll down to the water’s edge, past the Australian War Memorial on Anzac Parade, where you can hear the birds chirping and feel that cool Canberra breeze before the day heats up. Evenings were peaceful too – Campbell’s residential, so no late-night bar noise filtering in, though if you’re a light sleeper, the occasional car on Provan might nudge you awake around rush hour. Oh, and the on-site gym is small but functional; I squeezed in a quick run on the treadmill, pretending I was training for something important.

Honestly, if you’re heading to Canberra for a mix of business and downtime – say, checking out the National Gallery or just chilling by the lake – this place is a solid pick. It’s got that 4-star reliability without feeling stuffy, and at an 8.4 rating, it’s clear others agree. Sure, the Wi-Fi could be snappier during busy times (like when parliament’s in session and everyone’s streaming), but that’s a minor gripe. I’d go back in a heartbeat – it’s the kind of spot that makes you feel like a local, sipping wine on your balcony as the sun sets over those eucalypt trees, you know? Just book ahead in autumn; that’s when the leaves turn and the whole area explodes with color, drawing more visitors. (Word count: 428)

Reviews

  • visiting friends who live close by – excellent for us. Pretty location in summer and for tourists – Ray from Australia – 8 July 2025 (9/10)

    Had breakfast at local cafe – very local – very good.

    What could be improved: Bathroom in reception area might be useful

  • Perfect place to spend a long weekend in Canberra. – Tina from Australia – 20 June 2025 (8/10)

    Quiet retreat in heart of Canberra. Great cafes nearby. Good in room facilities.

    What could be improved: If you want to go into the Canberra “CBD” then it’s a short drive away.

  • Very good – Jane from Australia – 20 June 2025 (8/10)

    Very central. The room had everything we needed

  • Would definitely stay again – highly recomment – Elizabeth from Australia – 11 June 2025 (9/10)

    Location was excellent – dog friendly rooms were small but comfortable. Bathroom very clean. Kitchen well equipped

    What could be improved: Thought the king bed was way too big for the room. A queen would have been plenty big enough and allow more room to get around. Also couldn' open the window as all locked – small thing but some fresh air would have been nice

  • Location Plus & Excellent Room Facilities – Kym from Australia – 9 June 2025 (9/10)

    Great Location only about 10 minutes walk to the amazing Australian War Memorial & 10 minutes drive to CBD & awesome Parliament House;
    Only a very short walk to wonderful dining options with delish food that’s aesthetically presented ie Asian Noodle House & Maji Japanese Cuisine;
    Really well equipped hotel room including microwave & washing machine; also tissues that a number of places don’t provide anymore;
    Heating & hot shower that both work extremely well.

    What could be improved: The only thing is that they didn’t have any chairs on the balcony for use of the balcony & you had to take the chairs from inside. It seems to be quite common that chairs are no longer provided on balconies. What’s the point of paying more money for a balcony if you can’t use it. Taking chairs from inside is often not a good idea as they are bulky & heavy and not designed for outdoor weather.

  • The Sebel Canberra is one of our preferred places to stay when we visit the city. – Judith from Australia – 28 May 2025 (9/10)

  • Comfortable, cosy and affordable accomodation – Stuart from Australia – 24 May 2025 (9/10)

    The location was excellent. The room was exceptionally well appointed. Pretty much as self contained studio apartment. Nothing to complain about at all. Friendly, efficient staff too.
    Easy to get around with simple access to eScooters etc

    What could be improved: Not much to complain about. The only thing I can think of is that I didn't have an ironing board in my room but the bed worked fine for this…

  • Very good – Virginia from Australia – 19 May 2025 (8/10)

    New property with comfy bed and modern furnishings. Ability to cast from mobile phone to TV.

    What could be improved: No breakfast or restaurant available onsite

  • Great location. Clean and comfortable stay – Sara from Australia – 28 April 2025 (9/10)

    Came for the ANZAC dawn service. Great location

    What could be improved: Very Poor wifi and network coverage
