I mean, after a long drive from Sydney, that was a godsend. Stepping into Apartment 10 on level 2, it felt spacious right away, like it could actually sleep six without anyone feeling crammed. There’s this open-plan living area with a comfy sectional sofa that smells faintly of fresh linen (they must use some good detergent), and big windows letting in that crisp Canberra light. Oh, and the balcony overlooks the bustle of Anketell Street below – you can hear the occasional hum of cars from the nearby South.Point shopping centre, but it’s not overwhelming, especially at night when things quiet down. Parking was easy too; there’s secure spots underground, which is clutch in a place like this where street parking can get dicey during peak shopping hours.

What really made it special for me – and I stayed there with my family last spring, right around when the leaves were turning – was how it nailed that home-away-from-home vibe without trying too hard. The kitchen’s fully kitted out with a decent oven, microwave, and even a dishwasher, so we whipped up brekkie using stuff from the Woolies just across the road. No need to eat out every meal, which saved us a ton, especially with kids in tow. It’s about a 20-minute drive to central Canberra spots like Parliament House or the National Gallery, so if you’re not keen on the downtown hustle, this is perfect. Just note, weekends can get lively with shoppers, so if you’re after total silence, maybe book mid-week.

All in all, I’d totally recommend Tuggeranong Short Stay #10C if you’re doing a short trip to Canberra and want something practical for a group – it sleeps six comfortably without breaking the bank. It’s got that four-star polish but with real-life touches, like the little welcome pack of tea and coffee that hits the spot after check-in. Honestly, it’s not glamorous, but it’s reliable and in a spot that lets you dip into local life – grabbing fish and chips from the takeaway down the street or wandering the markets at the Hyperdome.
