You know, I stumbled upon the Vibe Hotel Canberra kind of by accident last year when I had an early flight out of the capital – it’s literally right there at the airport on Rogan Street, which makes it a godsend if you’re dealing with those crack-of-dawn departures from Canberra International. I mean, no schlepping through traffic from the city center; you can roll out of bed and be at your gate in like five minutes. The place has this sleek, modern feel from the get-go – think lots of bold colors and funky artwork in the lobby that sort of nods to Canberra’s artsy side without trying too hard. Check-in was a breeze, even when I arrived late after a delayed connection from Sydney; the staff were chatty and helpful, tossing in tips about grabbing a quick bite at the nearby Majura Park outlets if you need last-minute souvenirs. Honestly, the whole vibe (pun intended) is laid-back and energetic at the same time – not your stuffy business hotel, but something that feels alive, especially with the hum of travelers coming and going. Oh, and parking? They have spots right outside, but fair warning, it’s airport territory so it might sting a bit cost-wise if you’re staying longer than a night or two.

What really won me over, though, were the rooms – mine was on a higher floor with these massive windows overlooking the runway, which sounds noisy but actually, the double-glazing keeps the plane rumbles to a minimum (though if you’re a light sleeper, maybe request a quieter side facing away from the tarmac). The bed was plush, with those crisp white sheets that smell faintly of lavender or whatever they use in the laundry – super comfy after a day traipsing around Parliament House or Lake Burley Griffin, which are just a short drive away if you rent a car from the terminal. Breakfast at their in-house spot, the Soju Bar and Kitchen, was a highlight; they do this Asian-fusion thing with killer kimchi eggs and fresh coffee that hits different when you’re jet-lagged. There’s a gym too, nothing fancy but functional with free weights and treadmills – I squeezed in a quick session before checkout, and it overlooked the airport buzz, which was oddly motivating. Well, sort of – the Wi-Fi was speedy enough for work calls, but it did glitch once during peak hours when everyone was streaming. Still, for a 4-star joint with an 8.6 rating, it punches above its weight, especially in Canberra where options near the airport can feel a bit sterile. And in quieter seasons like winter, when the city’s not swarming with pollies during sitting weeks, it’s even more peaceful.

Look, if you’re popping into Canberra for a quick business trip or using it as a base to explore the bush capital without the hassle of inner-city parking nightmares, the Vibe is a solid pick. It’s not the ritziest spot – no infinity pool or spa like some downtown hotels – but that airport adjacency saves you time and sanity, and the personal touches, like the staff remembering your coffee order from the day before, make it feel welcoming. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially for those short stays where convenience is king. Just pack earplugs if you’re sensitive to the occasional jet whoosh, and you’ll be golden.

  3rd stay at Vibe Canberra. A comfy, cosy room – spacious. Quiet. Excellent breakfast – healthy options, and great coffee from the machine. Bathroom toiletries are lovely. The work station/desk in lobby was excellent and I utilised it for 2 hours whilst I was waiting. Checkout at 11am is generous.
  
  What could be improved: Water out of standard shower head was weak and splattered all over the place (room 405), ended up having to use the waterfall shower which I don't prefer to use. All good though as the included toiletries were worth it.
