Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon Abode Belconnen during a quick trip to Canberra last spring, and honestly, it turned out to be one of those spots that just clicks when you’re not in the mood for the downtown hustle. It’s tucked away on Grazier Lane in Belconnen – that’s the northern suburb, about a 15-minute drive from the city center if traffic’s behaving, which it usually does outside rush hour. I mean, pulling up, the building looks sleek and modern, like those apartment complexes that scream “practical luxury” without trying too hard. Parking was a breeze – they’ve got undercover spots right there, no circling the block like you might in Civic – and check-in was smooth as anything. The staff were chatty but not overbearing, handed over the keycard with a quick rundown on the Wi-Fi (which, by the way, held up great for streaming, even during those rainy evenings when I was binge-watching). Oh, and there’s this faint, fresh linen scent in the lobby that hits you right away – nothing overpowering, just clean and welcoming after a long drive from Sydney.

What really sold me was the room itself – I had one of their studio apartments, and it felt more like crashing at a friend’s stylish pad than a standard hotel. Spacious, with a little kitchenette stocked with basics (think microwave, fridge, even a dishwasher – perfect for whipping up brekkie and avoiding those pricey cafe runs). The bed was comfy, king-sized with pillows that actually fluff back up, and the bathroom had this rainfall shower that was a godsend after hiking around Lake Ginninderra, which is literally a five-minute walk away. You can hear the occasional bird calls from the lake if you crack the window – it’s got that suburban quiet, especially mid-week when the area’s not buzzing with uni students from nearby University of Canberra. Not everything’s perfect, though; the balcony views are more parking lot than postcard (unless you snag a higher floor facing west for those sunset glimpses over the Brindabellas), and the air con can be a bit noisy if you’re a light sleeper. But hey, for a 4-star spot with an 8.6 rating, it punches above its weight – they even have a small gym and laundry facilities downstairs, which came in handy when I extended my stay unexpectedly.

All in all, if you’re heading to Canberra for work or to hit up the national galleries without wanting to be smack in the tourist throng, Abode Belconnen’s a solid pick. It’s close enough to hop on the light rail down to Parliament House or grab groceries at Westfield mall just across Benjamin Way – seriously, the convenience store there saved me on late-night snack cravings. Prices aren’t outrageous, especially off-peak in winter when things quiet down, and it gives you that homey vibe that makes solo travel less lonely. I’d go back in a heartbeat – well, maybe request a quieter room next time, but yeah, it’s the kind of place that makes you feel settled in a city that’s all about that low-key Aussie charm. • Great stay! – Benita from Australia – 8 July 2025 (9/10)

Excellent location with Woolworths, BWS, take-aways and coffee shops within metres. Close to lake for a scenic walk/jog. Lovely restaurant on location. Wonderfully spacious room, very clean and modern.

What could be improved: The room air-con was set much too high and took a long time to cool down. I noticed that someone else had propped their door open to cool it off.

  • Modern, comfortable & clean. Great for families – Ashleigh from Australia – 6 July 2025 (10/10)

It was absolutely amazing. The rooms are modern and suited our family of 5 perfectly
I was offered by staff upon arrived for the futon to be made for my eldest to make for a more comfortable stay for him which was great
Overall we loved the atmosphere and value for money
We will be returning in the future

What could be improved: I appreciate the parking offered and don’t mind paying but the car park is a nightmare with other cars. People driving like idiots in a small area
Which isn’t a reflection of the hotel, more a warning to drive slowly

  • Definitely will stay there again – Tina from Australia – 6 July 2025 (10/10)
