Tucked away in Belmore Gardens, this place feels like it’s hiding in plain sight amid all those leafy streets in Barton, which is basically Canberra’s understated government hub. I pulled up around dusk, and the heritage building – think 1920s vibes with those cream walls and manicured gardens – immediately gave off this cozy, old-school charm without trying too hard. Check-in was a breeze; the staff were these friendly locals who chatted about the best spots for a flat white in nearby Manuka (pro tip: hit up The Cupping Room if you’re into your coffee). My room was on the second floor, overlooking the gardens – nothing flashy, but the high ceilings and that faint scent of polished wood made it feel spacious and inviting. Oh, and parking? Free and right out front, which is a godsend in a city where spots can vanish during peak parliamentary sessions.
