The whole Kingston Foreshore area has this relaxed vibe during the day, then comes alive in the evenings – but not in an obnoxious way, more like a gentle buzz that actually makes you feel connected to the place.

The rooms themselves hit that perfect balance between functional and comfortable. Nothing flashy, but everything you need is there and actually works properly (which, let’s face it, isn’t always a given). The beds are genuinely comfortable – I’m talking proper sleep, not that tossing-and-turning hotel bed experience. And here’s something I appreciated: the windows actually open, so you can get some fresh air instead of being stuck with recycled AC all night. Parking was straightforward too, which anyone who’s driven around Canberra during parliament sitting weeks will tell you is not something to take lightly. The staff were the kind of helpful where they give you actual local recommendations instead of just pointing you toward the obvious tourist spots. One of them told me about this walking track along the lake that I never would’ve discovered otherwise, and it honestly became the highlight of my whole trip. Look, if you’re after gold-plated everything and a concierge in a top hat, this isn’t your place. But if you want somewhere that feels authentic to Canberra, where you can actually experience the city instead of just passing through it, Griffin 159 delivers exactly that.

  Great location close to shops, good supermarket, glassworks, city sights. Comfortable beds and nice linen.
  Very good breakfast cafe on ground floor where they clearly care about their food and coffee. Give the one in the shopping center square a miss – cheaper but not worth half the cost.
  
  What could be improved: There is a flight of stairs to get to the unit which were not mentioned.
  Crockery and glasswear were a bit of a random assortment. Obviously hosts have had many losses over the years.

  Excellent location, close to fabulous supermarket and plenty of great restaurants. Apartment was large and clean. Coffee shop on ground floor was an added bonus. Check-in information was easy to understand – thank you for the detailed instructions.
  
  What could be improved: The weather was hot when we were there and bedrooms two and three, having no ceiling fans, were quite stuffy. The air conditioning struggled to extend that far. We would suggest providing free standing fans for these rooms. Also, we suggest a small table and chairs on the balcony. As the mornings were gloriously cool, it would have been nice to have breakfast on the balcony, enjoying the view of the trees.

  The place was spacious and clean and had everything we could need.
