You know what caught me off guard about Inn Central Townhouse at Canberra? It’s actually got this boutique hotel vibe that you don’t expect from the name – I mean, “inn” makes you think roadside motel, but this place is way more sophisticated than that. The building itself has this heritage charm that fits perfectly with Canberra‘s mix of old and new architecture, and honestly, the location is pretty much ideal if you want to explore the city without constantly jumping in a car.

The rooms have character – and I don’t mean that in the polite way people say it when a place is falling apart. They’ve actually got these thoughtful touches like quality linens and locally-sourced toiletries that make you feel like someone put real thought into the guest experience. The common areas are where this place really shines though. There’s this lovely sitting area where you can actually work on your laptop without feeling like you’re camping out in a lobby, and the staff genuinely seem to know the city well. When I asked about good coffee nearby (because let’s be real, hotel coffee is usually terrible), they pointed me toward this fantastic little roastery just a few streets over that I never would have found on my own.

What I appreciated most was how quiet it stays despite being so centrally located – you’re close enough to walk to Parliament House and the National Gallery without the tourist bus noise that plagues some of the bigger hotels in the area. The breakfast situation is solid too, nothing fancy but fresh and local, which is honestly all you need before a day of exploring. One small thing – parking can be a bit tight if you’re driving a larger vehicle, but most people visiting Canberra are probably better off walking or using rideshare anyway. The whole experience just feels more personal than those massive chain hotels, like you’re staying somewhere that actually belongs to the city rather than just dropped into it.

  The property itself was very clean, within walking distance to the shopping centre, cafes, restaurants, bars & public transport.
  
  What could be improved: The only downside to the property itself is, it needs to have proper window coverings (blockout curtains) in the living room when a sofa bed is an option for sleeping & for general privacy from neighbours. The shower in the main bedroom is very noisy and has very low water pressure as was the water pressure in other bathroom. The aircon does not work in the living room when it’s on whilst upstairs it gets extremely warm.
