Walking into Meriton Suites Canberra on Allara Street, you immediately get that “this is actually pretty special” feeling. The lobby has this sleek, modern vibe without being cold or intimidating — honestly, it strikes just the right balance for a five-star property. What really caught my attention was how the staff seemed genuinely happy to see guests, not just going through the motions you sometimes get at luxury hotels.

Location & Getting Around

The location is honestly fantastic, and I can see why couples rate it so highly — there’s something romantic about being right in the heart of Canberra but still feeling like you have your own space. You’re walking distance to Lake Burley Griffin, which is perfect for those early morning strolls or evening runs. The Parliamentary Triangle is practically on your doorstep, and you know what? Having your own parking spot in the city center is actually a huge deal — I mean, anyone who’s tried to find parking around here knows what I’m talking about.

The Suite Experience

These aren’t just hotel rooms — they’re proper suites with separate living areas that actually make sense. The room layouts feel like someone put real thought into how people actually live and move around a space. I loved having a full kitchen because, honestly, sometimes you just want to make your own coffee or grab a snack without calling room service. The views vary depending on which floor you’re on, but even the lower floors have something nice to look at — the city planning here really shows.

Amenities & Comfort

The building has this great spa and fitness area that doesn’t feel like an afterthought — you can tell they actually invested in making it a proper retreat space. What I really appreciated was how quiet everything stays, even though you’re in the middle of the city. The soundproofing is excellent, which isn’t always a given in newer buildings. There’s also a decent restaurant on-site, though with Canberra’s food scene right outside your door, you might find yourself exploring more than staying in.

Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Canberra, and this one just gets the details right. It’s that combination of having luxury touches without the stuffiness — you feel pampered but not like you need to whisper in the hallways. The fact that couples consistently rave about it makes total sense when you experience how the suites are designed for actually spending time together, not just sleeping. Plus, having reliable parking and being able to walk to most of what you want to see in the capital? That’s pretty much the perfect setup for a Canberra stay.
