Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon the Splendid 2bd 1bth 1csp Apt during a quick work trip to Canberra last spring, and honestly, it turned out to be one of those spots that just clicks for a no-fuss stay right in the heart of things. Tucked away on Boolee Street in the CBD – yeah, that quiet little stretch just off Northbourne Avenue, where the traffic hums but doesn’t overwhelm – it’s super handy if you’re into exploring without needing a car every five minutes. I mean, you can wander over to Lake Burley Griffin in about 10 minutes on foot, or hit up the National Gallery if you’re feeling cultural; it’s all right there, especially during those crisp autumn days when the leaves are turning and the crowds aren’t too insane. Check-in was a breeze – they do it contactless with a code, which is great if you’re arriving late after a flight from Sydney, like I did. No front desk drama, just straight into the place, though fair warning, the elevator’s a bit pokey if you’re hauling luggage. And that one car space? A lifesaver in Canberra’s parking nightmare, especially around rush hour when everyone’s funneling out of Parliament House nearby.

What really sold me was how lived-in and practical the apartment felt – not some sterile hotel room, but a proper two-bedroom setup with a full kitchen that smells faintly of fresh coffee from the machine they stock (Nespresso pods included, thank goodness). The living area’s got these big windows overlooking the street, letting in that soft afternoon light, and the beds are comfy enough, though the pillows could be fluffier if you’re picky like me. It’s got that modern vibe with sleek wooden floors that creak just a tad underfoot – adds character, you know? – and the bathroom’s straightforward, one of those walk-in showers with decent pressure, but nothing spa-like. I appreciated the little touches, like the washer-dryer combo for when you’ve been out hiking in the Brindabellas and come back muddy. Noise-wise, it’s pretty chill for a CBD spot; you might hear the occasional tram ding from London Circuit, but it quiets down after 10 PM, especially mid-week when the city’s not buzzing with tourists. Oh, and if you’re traveling with a small group or family, the space works well – we squeezed in four of us without feeling cramped, cooking up brekkie in the mornings to save on eating out at those pricey cafes in Braddon, just a short stroll away.

All in all, for a 4-star rating that clocks in at about 7.9, it’s solid value if you’re after something authentic to Canberra’s vibe – not flashy, but reliable and well-positioned for dipping into the capital’s quieter charms, like catching a sunset over the lake or grabbing craft beer at BentSpoke nearby. I’d say skip peak summer when the heat waves hit and everything’s packed, but spring or autumn? Perfect. Well, maybe bring your own toiletries if you’re fussy, as theirs are basic, but otherwise, it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like a local for a bit. If you’re heading to Canberra and want to avoid the big chain hotels, give this one a go – you won’t regret it, promise.

Reviews

  • Great location, very good views and opposite to Glebe park. Very central to walk for dinner. – Ray from United Kingdom – 25 January 2025 (9/10)

Opposite magnificent Glebe Park, walking distance to restaurants, short drives to Museums and Galleries. Good size rooms and balcony …. grandkids loved the pool !! Great views from balcony, would stay there again, highly recommend!!

What could be improved: Difficulty finding/pick up of keys plus initial challenge of getting into carpark but later resolved and plenty of room and cover for vehicle.!

  • Comfortable apartment but small for more than 4 people – Brad from Australia – 10 January 2025 (8/10)

    The apartment was clean, modern,
And within walking distance to the shops.
Only a short drive to all the sights.

What could be improved: Car parking was a little confusing, but once you found it all good. Tip when you go into the complex, follow it around in a horse shoe shape and the black roller doors are to the left on the exit up ramp… don't use the up ramp on the right with the 1st black roller door.

  • Awesome location , clean and new – Jenny from Australia – 23 December 2024 (9/10)

Central location , clean and comfy

  • Good – Eleanor from Australia – 11 December 2024 (7/10)

good location and comfortable. It was relatively easy to collect keys, just logistically frustrating without my own transport. Had to walk with my luggage 15 mins back to apartment.

What could be improved: Collecting the keys was a treasure hunt across town. I didn't receive 'instructions' until the day before so had not planned for it. I arrived by taxi and had to get dropped off a 15 minute walk away, where the 'office' was (container behind a car wash).

  • Awesome place – Hume from Australia – 30 November 2024 (8/10)

Great place and the bonus of secure parking

  • Would definitely go back to Canberra and the apartment was perfect for our short stay – Zaiga from Australia – 25 November 2024 (8/10)

    Location was fantastic

What could be improved: The view was a little disappointing.

  • Extremely pleasant for a base to visit National Gallery and Canberra Capital Exhibition. – Terry from Australia – 17 September 2024 (8/10)

Excellent location Perhaps some info about where local supermarkets were (Canberra Centre). Possible restaurants such as those in Lonsdale St.

What could be improved: Clearer instructions for accessing car park. The last instruction needs to state explicitly ignore right turn arrow which takes you out of car park into street. Instead turn left to locked grate door. Otherwise fine

Some simple instructions for using induction top on stove. Speaking as someone who has an induction top

  • Very good – Nicki from Australia – 11 September 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: Key pickup was annoying.

  • Superb – Wendy from Australia – 23 August 2024 (9/10)

Location was fantastic, 10 minutes walk to the restaurants.

What could be improved: Appt was a bit small but then if one's only there to sleep it doesn't matter.

  • Great cosy self contained apartment, nice building, excellent location. – Jason from Australia – 21 August 2024 (9/10)

    Great central location, carpark facilities

What could be improved: A complimentary Additional set of keys would have been nice, when attempting a family stay. The building is quite locked down, this made access and coordination tricker at times.
The Keys pickup location is not onsite, fine if you have a car but would be annoying without wheels.
