Braddon is one of those neighborhoods that locals love but tourists often miss, and that’s exactly what makes this spot so great. You’re literally walking distance from Lonsdale Street’s cafe strip – I mean, we’re talking about some of the best coffee in Canberra here, and trust me, that matters when you’re trying to shake off jet lag or just need your morning fix. The apartment itself sits right in the thick of things, but somehow manages to stay quiet at night (well, mostly – Friday nights can get a bit lively, but nothing too crazy).

What really got me was how the space actually feels like someone’s home rather than a sterile rental. The two bedrooms are properly sized – not those cramped hotel rooms where you’re bumping into each other trying to get dressed. The kitchen actually has everything you need if you want to cook, which honestly saved us a fortune during our week-long stay. There’s this great little grocery store just around the corner, and I found myself picking up fresh bread and local produce almost daily. The living area has this comfortable, lived-in vibe that makes you want to actually hang out there instead of just crashing after sightseeing.

Parking was surprisingly easy too – something I definitely wasn’t expecting in what’s essentially the inner city. The Canstay team was pretty responsive when we had a minor issue with the wifi on day two, though I will say the check-in process took a bit longer than expected since it’s all done remotely. But you know what? Once we got settled, it felt like we had our own little base in one of Canberra’s most interesting pockets. The whole area has this creative energy – there are galleries, quirky shops, and restaurants that locals actually eat at, not just tourist traps. If you’re the type who prefers feeling like you’re living somewhere rather than just visiting, this place nails it.

  What could be improved: Access to the property is exceptionally complex and the worst experience I’ve ever had.
  
  I booked an apartment on the basis that it had a bath in one of the bathrooms. There was not. When I raised this with the booking agent they completely misunderstood and told me there were 2 bathrooms and sent a photo of 2 showers.
  
  There was only one set of keys, which meant we were completely restricted as you can’t move around the building without the key and key fob.
  
  The drier did not work. The carpet wasn’t cleaned properly under the dining table with food scraps left.
  Poor quality bedroom furniture. The bed in the main room was unstable and the mattress fell through the slats. Bedside drawers were poorly constructed and didn’t function – falling out
